16-bit can refer to a CPU or memory interface that is capable of addressing and transferring 16 bits of data per clock cycle. In more technical terms, this means processors can work with 16-bit binary numbers (decimal numbers up to 65535); anything larger, and the computer would need to break the data into smaller pieces.
