2 On 2 Open Ice Challenge is an ice hockey arcade game released by Midway Games in 1995. It was ported to PlayStation in 1996 and Microsoft Windows in 1997 as NHL Open Ice: 2 On 2 Challenge. The game would be similar to its arcade counterpart with exception to the fact that the Winnipeg Jets moved to Phoenix after the conclusion of the 1995-96 season, thus the Phoenix Coyotes replaced the Jets in the PlayStation port. Open Ice was released on PC for Microsoft Windows in 1997 featuring the same roster and teams as the PlayStation version. This game was released as an official licensed product of the National Hockey League Players Association. Jack Haeger was lead game designer and an avid hockey player. The lead programmer was Mark Penacho, assisted by Bill Dabelstein. Sound design and music by Jon Hey. The skating sounds were recorded by Jon Hey at the Chicago Park District's only indoor ice rink, McFetridge Sports Center, which is just a block North of what was once Midway's Chicago studios. The announcer in the game is the famous voice of the Chicago Blackhawks' Pat Foley. If a team achieves "On-Fire" status (made famous initially by Midway's NBA Jam), Pat Foley's voice will occasionally announce: "Toasty", a reference to Mortal Kombat. ==Teams and Rosters== ===Eastern Conference=== ====Atlantic Division==== * Florida Panthers ** Scott Mellanby ** Gord Murphy ** Ray Sheppard ** Ed Jovanovski ** John Vanbiesbrouck (G) * New Jersey Devils ** John MacLean (ice hockey)|John MacLean ** Steve Thomas (ice hockey)|Steve Thomas ** Scott Stevens ** Stephane Richer ** Martin Brodeur (G) * New York Islanders ** Derek King ** Travis Green ** Wendel Clark ** Kirk Muller ** Tommy Soderstrom (G) * New York Rangers ** Mark Messier ** Brian Leetch ** Luc Robitaille ** Mike Richter (G) * Philadelphia Flyers ** Eric Lindros ** Rod Brind'Amour ** Mikael Renberg ** Ron Hextall (G) * Tampa Bay Lightning ** Roman Hamrlik ** Brian Bradley ** Petr Klima ** Darren Puppa (G) * Washington Capitals ** Peter Bondra ** Michal Pivonka ** Mark Tinordi ** Jim Carey (ice hockey)|Jim Carey (G) ====Northeast Division==== * Boston Bruins ** Adam Oates ** Ray Bourque ** Kevin Stevens ** Blaine Lacher (G) * Buffalo Sabres ** Pat LaFontaine ** Derek Plante ** Donald Audette ** Dominik Hasek (G) * Hartford Whalers ** Brendan Shanahan ** Geoff Sanderson ** Andrew Cassels ** Sean Burke (G) * Montreal Canadiens ** Pierre Turgeon ** Mark Recchi ** Vincent Damphousse ** Patrick Roy (G) * Ottawa Senators ** Alexandre Daigle ** Alexei Yashin ** Radek Bonk ** Damian Rhodes (G) * Pittsburgh Penguins ** Mario Lemieux ** Jaromir Jagr ** Petr Nedved ** Ken Wregget (G) ===Western Conference=== ====Central Division==== * Chicago Blackhawks ** Denis Savard ** Chris Chelios ** Bernie Nicholls ** Jeremy Roenick ** Ed Belfour (G) *Dallas Stars ** Mike Modano ** Kevin Hatcher ** Dave Gagner ** Andy Moog (G) * Detroit Red Wings ** Sergei Fedorov ** Steve Yzerman ** Paul Coffey ** Dino Ciccarelli ** Mike Vernon (ice hockey)|Mike Vernon (G) * St. Louis Blues (ice hockey)|St. Louis Blues ** Brett Hull ** Shayne Corson ** Esa Tikkanen ** Dale Hawerchuk ** Grant Fuhr (G) * Toronto Maple Leafs ** Dave Andreychuk ** Doug Gilmour ** Mats Sundin ** Felix Potvin (G) * Winnipeg Jets ** Teemu Selanne ** Keith Tkachuk ** Alexei Zhamnov ** Tim Cheveldae (G) ====Pacific Division==== * Mighty Ducks of Anaheim ** Paul Kariya ** Bob Corkum ** Tom Kurvers ** Guy Hebert (G) * Calgary Flames ** Zarley Zalapski ** Theoren Fleury ** Joe Nieuwendyk ** Phil Housley ** Trevor Kidd (G) * Colorado Avalanche ** Claude Lemieux ** Joe Sakic ** Sandis Ozolinsh ** Peter Forsberg ** Stephane Fiset (G) * Edmonton Oilers ** Doug Weight ** Jason Arnott ** Igor Kravchuk ** Bill Ranford (G) * Los Angeles Kings ** Wayne Gretzky ** Jari Kurri ** Ray Ferraro ** Rick Tocchet ** Kelly Hrudey (G) * San Jose Sharks ** Owen Nolan ** Craig Janney ** Doug Bodger ** Arturs Irbe (G) * Vancouver Canucks ** Pavel Bure ** Trevor Linden ** Alexander Mogilny ** Kirk McLean (G) ==External Links== * 12 * 2 On 2 Open Ice Challenge at Exotica
