Alien: Isolation is a first-person survival horror game developed by Creative Assembly and published by SEGA. The game is a "midquel" taking place between the films Alien and Aliens in the Alien Franchise.
Storyline[edit | edit source]
Alien: Isolation takes place during the year 2137, 15 years after Alien and 42 years before Aliens. The protagonist is Amanda, the daughter of Ellen Ripley. After new leads on the disappearance of her mother are discovered, Amanda attempts to locate her, unaware she is being hunted by a Xenomorph.
Gameplay[edit | edit source]
Alien: Isolation is a first-person survival horror game, with the player taking control of Amanda Ripley. The player must traverse a space station, coming into conflict with hostile humans, androids, and the lone titular Xenomorph. While humans and androids can be defeated with guns or other forms of offense, the Xenomorph is invincible, and the player must evade it in order to survive. The Xenomorph has a complex AI and does not hunt based on pre-set paths. Instead, it uses senses, including sight, hearing, and smell, to track the player. By being caught within the Xenomorph's frame of vision or creating two much noise, Amanda can be located. Amanda also gives off a smell, leaving a path behind for the Xenomorph to follow. If the player remains hidden in the same spot for too long, the Xenomorph will be able to locate Amanda entirely based on smell. If caught by the Xenomorph, there is no way to damage or kill it. It will kill Amanda, requiring the player to replay a certain section and attempt to avoid it the next time around.
