The main gameplay mechanics of Biology Battle are similar to other Dual Stick Shooter games such as Robotron, Smash TV, and Geometry Wars.

According to an interview with Novaleaf Game Studios, the game cost $100,000 USD [1] to make, higher than other XBLIG games. A PC-version was released in March 2010.
After its initial release price of 800 Microsoft Points on November 19, 2008, Novaleaf lowered the price by half to 400 Microsoft Points in May 2009.
