Conker's Quest[edit | edit source]
Conker's Bad Fur Day was originally going to be a family friendly game titled Conker's Quest. It was to be a sequel to Conker's Pocket Tales and was first revealed at E3 1997. On the game's official website, they said they were taking a well-earned break from violence and destruction. It was set to release by Christmas 1997. The game was later pushed back to 1998.
Gameplay[edit | edit source]
The objective of the game was to play as Conker and Berri, collecting 100 stolen presents. The game would have taken place in 4 worlds, including Cuckoo Village, Popcorn Mines, Windmill Pasture and an un-named Volcano area. The Windmill Pasture area allowed players to travel to Roman, Western and Ancient times.
Conker's gameplay would be more arcade-like, directly fighting enemies. Berri's gameplay would have been much different, and a more strategic style of gameplay. The characters could have been played simultaneously. A very key feature was the "emotion system" in which the characters react to the situations they are placed in.
Development[edit | edit source]
After the announcement of the game, the project was renamed to Twelve Tales: Conker 64. Many critics panned the prototype for being another cute platformer. The game was then delayed again, and news went silent. Many speculated that it had been cancelled. They then bought some time by saying that they were spending this time working on the game's complex emotion system, but in reality the game had redesigned and restarted.
The game re-appeared in 2000, with the game appearing on Nintendo's "Upcoming Games" list as Conker's Bad Fur Day. IGN recieved a redesign of Conker soon after. Many dismissed this as a clever prank, but it was in fact real. They re-announced Conker at E3 2000, as an adult game completely contradictory to the earlier prototypes.
Conker's Bad Fur Day Beta[edit | edit source]
The Beta ROMs for this game leaked after someone obtain test builds and distributed them on a popular forum. Several differences to the final game were found, including cutscenes absent from the final game.
It's War![edit | edit source]
In the scene where the SHC Squirrel is shot, he was originally intended to hold a walkie-talkie. An early version of the ending cutscene for the chapter was also found, however this lacked several animations present in the final version.
In the beta ROM, in the cutscene were Rodent gets shot, two squirrels are tied up beside Rodent. The result is the same, and all three end up dying.
Disturbing Cutscene[edit | edit source]
Nintendo requested that a disturbing cutscene was removed from The Casualty Department. It showcases the Tediz expirimenting on a soldier, while he begs for his life. The audio track at the end of the cutscene is used in a different scene, however.
Heist[edit | edit source]
The Heist chapter was very much unfinished in the demo, lacking voice acting, mouth animations and speak bubbles. The cutscene is more or less silent.
