In a February 2005 interview with Kikizo, Tomonobu Itagaki stated that Code Chronos will in fact be a prequel to the Dead or Alive series and will relay the story of characters Ayane and Kasumi before the first tournament.
As of November 2008, development status on the title is unknown. Team Ninja founder (and DOA creator) Itagaki filed a lawsuit against Tecmo for unpaid royalties and damages concerning harsh words from the company's president. On July 1, 2008, he officially resigned from Tecmo, thus leaving the Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive franchises.
The game was officially cancelled on November 5, 2010.
