A Digital Platform is a software application and/or service that allows games to be distributed to players, without the need for physical media beyond the actual platform being used (such as a PC or console), over the Internet.

Software applications constitute programs like Steam, Origin, Arc, Uplay, GOG Galaxy, Glyph and Desura, while software service examples include Origin Access, Nintendo eShop, Xbox Live Marketplace and the PlayStation Store.
