Hearthstone (originally launched as Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft) is an online Collectible Card Game developed by Blizzard Entertainment released in 2014; the name was changed to just Hearthstone in November 2016.[1] The cards are based off of characters from the Warcraft franchise. Players start out using Jaina Proudmoore's (Mage) deck, and can eventually earn cards from wins and unlock the other classes. The only classes currently without representation are Death Knights and Monks. The game has now also had its first expansion, Hearthstone: Goblins vs Gnomes.

Classes[ | ]

Each class has their own starter deck and hero power.

  • Druid (Malfurion Stormrage)
  • Hunter (Rexxar)
  • Mage (Jaina Produmoore)
  • Paladin (Uther the Lightbringer)
  • Priest (Anduin Wrynn)
  • Rogue (Valeera Sanguinar)
  • Shaman (Thrall)
  • Warlock (Gul'dan)
  • Warrior (Garrosh Hellscream)

Cards[ | ]

Cards can be collected by winning matches, buying card packs from the in-game store (with either Gold or real money), entering promo codes on Battle.net, or are awarded for participation in certain events. Each card has a cost, minions have a Health/Defense section, and most have an effect. Cards can further be broken down into sub-types (Minion, Spell, Weapon). Cards have the following value types: Common, Rare, Epic, Legendary. There are also "Golden" versions of every card, which have animations.

Minion cards[ | ]

These are the main source of damage and defense for your Heroes. Minion cards can have an affect as soon as they're played (such as cause direct damage, or destroy another card). Some have the ability to Taunt (which means your Hero cannot be attacked by minions until the Taunting creature is destroyed). It's best to experiment with these to find a suitable combination.

Spell cards[ | ]

These cards are used to trigger a one-time effect or ability. Unlike minion cards, they do not have health or defense, and are played directly from the hand.

Weapon cards[ | ]

These cards can be equipped to heroes (though only one at a time). Each weapon has an attack value, and a durability value (the durability value goes down by 1 each time you attack using the weapon).
