The Need for Speed series is a racing video game series published by Electronic Arts, with both Criterion Games and Firemonkeys Studios developing games in the series. The series revolves around illegal street racing. Some games include police vehicles, as either playable characters or enemy NPC's. There are currently twenty-four video games in the series, (not including Need for Speed: V-Rally, Need for Speed: V-Rally 2, Need for Speed: Motor City Online, and Need for Speed: Edge) The first video game in the Need for Speed series was Need for Speed, released in 1994.
