Basic Information

Game Over is a standard feature in most video games that tells the player that the game has ended, due to a number of factors. One of the most common reasons why a player will get a game over, is if they run out of lives and cannot continue on. Each game has a different Game Over screen and, depending on the game, where the player will start. Most commonly, players who receive a Game Over will start at their last save point. Sometimes a player can respawn right where they died (such as the case in Wario World). Some games give the option for the player to either continue or quit (such as Mischief Makers). Some games require the player to complete the whole game again (common in older arcade games like Space Invaders). A game over can also mean that the game has been completed (although it can always be replayed).
