GeForce is a series of graphics cards designed by NVIDIA. The series was first introduced in 1999 with the NVIDIA GeForce 256, advertised as the first GPU (graphics processing unit). While the series includes desktop graphics processors, the series also includes laptop GPUs, suffixed with M. GeForce cards and chips are notably popular for PC gaming. Current cards, in the 900 series, utilise the Maxwell microarchitecture. While NVIDIA provides the base chips and fans for the cards, individual manufacturers (such as Asus, XFX and MSI) may make improvements upon the card.
