Hot seat is a multiplayer game mode where the players take turns playing, and thus have to "swap seats" to be the one who plays. Many old NES or Atari 2600 games used Hot Seat multiplayer, usually requiring the second player to beat the first player's score. As other forms of multiplayer gaming became more standard, fewer games have included hot seat multiplayer.
