The imperials

Humans are traditionally attached to their hearths, preferring to live on the lands of their ancestors, behind the Northern Ridge. They worship the Supreme Gods and believe themselves to be “gods’ creatures”, that is to have been created by the Gods themselves. That said, they’re tolerant of the other races and their beliefs and don’t mind cohabiting with them.

The uplanders of the Heathlands

Humans abandon familiar spots only for exceptional reasons. The uplanders of the Heathlands are in main part escaped peasants and their descendants. They are mixed with the motley crew of those who would get their heads loped off in the south.

The Lord of the Northern Gate is responsible for catching escapees who cross over the Northern Ridge’s pass. However, Lord Ingvar didn’t show much zeal for this task. This has displeased the dwarves who are concerned with the increasing numbers of the uplanders in close vicinity to dwarven domain.

The Mite Cult

Few remember that the first settlements of the humans fleeing the Empire appeared not in the Heathlands, but in the Rotten Bog while it was still called the Boundless. Today the descendants of those settlers worship the Divine Mite, a chthonic monster from the bottom of the swamps. The cult’s secrets are securely protected; even the fact of its existence is kept under wrap. All travelers who learn about the Mite Cult have to remain in the Rotten Bog forever by either joining the cult or dying.

The Brotherhood of Fire

The Brotherhood of Fire is one of the few human communities that worship not the Supreme Gods, but the Primordial Spirits. This is a militarized order of fanatic enemies of demons, monsters, dark cults and everything that, according to them, is unholy and has no right to exist. The Brotherhood has no single center. Strewn across the whole continent are their citadels, in which the brothers live and labor – preach their ideals, recruit novices and prowl in search of all kinds of evil creatures.

At the dawn of its existence, the Brotherhood considered protecting humans as their main goal. With time, their views have become harsh. The reason for that is plain to see: since humans willingly summon demons, they are responsible for the demise of the Brothers.

As a result, the Brotherhood doesn’t strive to protect anyone anymore. On the contrary, they’re ready to kill the innocent in order to root out all evil.
