Nicky Boum (aka Nicky Boom) is a side-scrolling platform game published for the Commodore Amiga and MS-DOS by Microïds in 1992. It was designed by Alain Lambin who created the graphics, sound and music, and was programmed by Dominico Manfredi. The game began a second life in 2008, with a remake for smartphone, which was made available for Windows computers late in 2008.
Story[edit | edit source]
The player controls 'Nicky', a little boy who embarks on an adventure through a fantastical land to find an elixir to save his grandfather dark dungeon of the terrible wicked witch known as Zoldrane the Sorceress, who hopes to get from the old man the secrets of the forest tribe he is the guardian of. To stop Nicky, the foul witch has changed the peaceful inhabitants of the woods into nasty monsters almost as evil as her to guard her castle.
Gameplay[edit | edit source]
Nicky can walk, jump, and in an original theme can throw apple cores to defend himself against the witch's minions occupying the levels. The player can pick up other items to throw at enemies such as bouncy balls and logs. The logs can also be used to build bridges at certain parts of the levels. Nicky is able to jump on enemies to kill them, which is often more difficult but lets the monsters drop point items to collect. When jumped on, some enemies such as giant snails will split into multiple smaller versions of themselves. The game consists of eight levels based on four separate themes, including a swamp, dark forest and a castle.
Nicky 2[edit | edit source]
The game was followed by a sequel called Nicky 2 in 1993. In the sequel Nicky founds out that the now-vanquished witch had a sister who's no less cruel and even more powerful than her sibling, and who now is out for revenge. To help him in the quest to defeat the new enemy, the boy is given a magical goose by his grandfather.
