PlayStation 5 is currently the placeholder title for Sony's successor to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro home consoles; the name PlayStation 5 has yet to be confirmed by Sony.

Base on an interview that Mark Cerny did with Wired[1], the following can be expected for this new console:

  • Backwards compatibility with PlayStation 4 titles, as well as with PlayStation VR.
  • AMD 8-core 7nm-process CPU based on the third-generation of Ryzen processors.
  • AMD Radeon Navi series graphics, with Ray Tracing and 8K resolution support confirmed.
  • AMD 3D Audio
  • Internal SSD

Many more features have yet to be touched upon, such as PlayStation, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 backwards compatibility, or the ability to play UHD Blu-ray titles (a feature that shipped with the Xbox One X, but not with the PlayStation 4 Pro).
