Port (plug)

Ports are sometimes referred to as socket, plug, or "holes" by expert electricians. The female component of a male-to-female electrical connection, most commonly, when plugging a controller into an appropriate controller port on a console.

The Latin root port means a gate, as in transport (across gates, from one to another), portable (able to move from gate to gate), and the word port itself (often referring to a dock where goods arrive or depart).
