In gaming, a Spawnpoint refers to a set spot or area where a player, item, vehicle, weapon, etc. spawns. The act of someone waiting near or on a spawnpoint is known as camping and can often lead to frustration if a person is repeatedly killed upon spawning, or an item is obtained.
In some multiplayer games, spawnpoints are dependent on the position of the player's allies, such as the Call of Duty franchise, while other games, such as Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, have set spawn points that do not change (which could ultimately lead to camping).
In Star Wars: Battlefront, a unit could only spawn on a command post that is under their faction's control. When a team drops down to two or less command posts, their reinforcement meter would deplete at a steady rate. This was continued in Star Wars: Battlefront II, where the amount of command posts needed to keep the reinforcement count stable was dependent upon the amount of command posts on the map.
In some games, such as Overwatch, spawn points are not accessible to the enemy team, providing a safe haven for players who were recently killed or for players joining a game already in progress.
