The Star Trek Customizable Card Game was a trading card game published by Decipher. The first player to get 100 points wins the game.

Phases[edit | edit source]

The Star Trek CCG is played out over phases. The first phase is the Seed Phase; this is where both players create a line with cards that depict locations, alternating between their and their opponents cards; this is called the spaceline. The players then "seed", or place under these locations, appropriate cards, such as dilemmas and artifacts. Each location has a mission, and the player that completes that mission (after completing any dilemmas seeded there) is awarded these "seeded" cards if they are theirs.

Affiliations[edit | edit source]

The game uses an Affiliation system to determine which cards you can use. It works similar to what could now be described as a faction system. Each player starts out by representing a specific affiliation, and can only use cards that belong to that affiliation; the game was initially released with Federation, Klingon and Romulan-affiliation ships and personnel, but this was expanded over time to include Borg, Ferengi, Cardassian, Bajoran, Dominion, Vidiian, Kazon and others). You can only use personnel and ships that match your affiliation. The game also includes cards that are Non-Affiliated; these can be used by players of any affiliation, except Borg.

Personnel[edit | edit source]

Personnel have three main stats of interest; Cunning, Strength and Integrity. These stats come into play for both combat, and for completing missions. Most personnel cards also have skills, which some missions require. If a personnel card has a diamond icon next to the name, you can use up to four in your deck. Otherwise, one copy only of that card is permitted.

Ships[edit | edit source]

Ships have three main stats of interest, as well as staffing requirements. Some have specialist equipment, such as a tractor beam. The Range stat relates to how far along the spaceline that ship can travel in a turn.

Staffing[edit | edit source]

Ships have specific requirements in order to function. There are two main icons used: Staff, and Command. Staff is represented by a four-pointed silver star, while Command is represented by a six-point golden star. If a ship does not have its staffing requirements met, it cannot function. Borg cards have staffing represented by subcommands; Defense, Communication, and Navigation. Other icons can also be used for staffing requirements that some specific or unique personnel cards possess.

Cards[edit | edit source]

Events[edit | edit source]

Event cards are permanent cards that alter the state of gameplay, or cause a specific event to happen. For example, Treaty cards can be played that allow your affiliation to use cards meant for another specific affiliation named on the card. One such treaty card is the Federation/Klingon/Romulan Treaty, which allows Federation, Klingon or Romulan affiliation players to use personnel and crew of the other two affiliations; this card was released only as a preview card.

Interrupts[edit | edit source]

Interrupt cards are cards that can be played from your hand during either player's turn, often in response to a specific event or action occurring.

Dilemmas[edit | edit source]

These can only be "seeded" during the first phase of the game. Before completing a mission at a location, an away team must overcome all dilemmas seeded under that location by both players. Some award bonus points for completion. Dilemmas can either be planetary, space, or both; this restricts under which locations a dilemma can be seeded.

Doorways[edit | edit source]

Doorway cards often allow the player access to specific locations or cards.

Equipment[edit | edit source]

Equipment cards boost the stats of, or may grant abilities to, a ship or personnel group that uses them, as long as they meet the requirements to use the item. Some missions require specific equipment cards.

Artifacts[edit | edit source]

Artifact cards can often greatly boost the stats of a ship or personnel group that uses them.

Locations[edit | edit source]

Location cards can either be planetary, space, or both. They have a number on the bottom which indicates how much of a ship's Range stat is required to traverse it in one turn.

Objectives[edit | edit source]

Objective cards grant the player the ability to complete specific tasks for rewards. Often used by players of the Borg affiliation.

Facilities[edit | edit source]

These are separated into Headquarters, Outpost and Colony. Headquarters locations are where your ship and personnel cards "report to", and Colony locations are where you can score bonus points if your personnel occupy that site unopposed.

Q-Continuum[edit | edit source]

Q-Continuum cards are cards used in a special side deck, and are challenges that you can make your opponent face. These can potentially award bonus points.

Eras[edit | edit source]

When the game originally released, it was based on the events of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Later expansions were produced that referenced the film Star Trek: First Contact, and later on, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager, among others.
