Surround is a game released for the Atari 2600. It is based on Midway's arcade game Checkmate (which was ported to the Bally Astrocade) and can be seen as the inspiration for the light cycle sequence in the movie TRON.

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

You and another player control two squares that move around leaving trails for the each other to hopefully collide into, earning the surviving player a point. Whoever earns ten points wins and the game ends. Game variations include speedup, erase, wraparound, and diagonal movement. There is also a Video Graffiti mode where you can draw images on the screen using the squares.
