Swords and sorcery

A popular game theme in various genres, swords and sorcery settings are usually medieval, although there are some exceptions. The trademark qualities are, in fact, swords and sorcery. Games using this theme typically eschew higher technology to portray a simpler, less intrusive game world, with weapons that cut things and abilities that are described only as magic.

Dungeons and Dragons is usually considered to define the "swords and sorcery" setting.
