Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis is a prequel to the original SNES/PlayStation Tactics Ogre game. The gameplay is allegedly easier compared to the original and features only two branching paths. The story takes place in Lodis and resembles the story of Satan being a fallen angel, with several fantasy changes, such as a Mermaid/Human war.

The earliest games in the series chronologically, the story follows Alphonse Loeher, a knight of the Lodis empire sent to the island of Ovis to help stop a rebellion. He finds himself drawn into the service of a second faction of the empire and against his former colleagues as the two groups aim to find Longicolnis, the scared spear crafted from the horn of the fallen angel.
