A stockpile of cardboard tubes. Clearly, a battle is about to be waged.
"The Tube is Civilization!"

Those are the famous words uttered by the Penny-Arcade character, Tycho as he collapsed to the floor after being beaten and threatened by Gabe with a recently discarded cardboard tube. Cardboard tubes inherent usefulness as a weapon spurred on the creation of an equally popular spinoff character. The Cardboard Tube Samurai, sometimes shortened to CTS, uses the Tube to cut down all who stand in his way. Many fans have been driven to such lengths of worship to the Tube that they have succumbed to the dark side and have partaken in a secretive and forbidden ritual, commonly referred to as cosplay. Dressing as the Cardboard Tube Samurai, complete with cardboard tubes of their own, cosplayers journey to various gaming and non gaming events in their efforts to find like minded folk.

The Tube in gaming[edit | edit source]

The Tube and CTS have made cameo appearances in various video games. One such game is Legacy of Kain: Defiance. In this game, a cheat code can be entered which allows the main character, Kain, to wield a cardboard tube as a weapon.[1] A mod for the game Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast has also been created by fans of the Cardboard Tube Samurai.[2]
