I am the administrator for the following Wikis:
All of this I created myself, or adopted something that had almost no articles on it, it just a stub.
I am currently seeking to become an administrator on this wiki, so I can mass import articles from the Wikipedia that are related to games, and are threatened for deletion. I did that with the Manga articles, adding over 8 thousand articles to it. Dream Focus 13:27, September 15, 2010 (UTC)
- Update. Got the administration rights, and started importing things. Trying to make sure the necessary templates are imported as well, and working properly, and I don't accidentally overwrite an article that was already here. If that happens, just undo at that article, as I did at the one spot I saw that happening at so far. Trying to just get things that aren't already here. Grab the list articles and the category articles, and then anything appearing as a red link, I copy those articles over in bunches from Wikipedia. Dream Focus 13:36, September 16, 2010 (UTC)
huge importing[edit | edit source]
- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Windows_games has 4,712 articles total in that category.
- http://gaming.gamepedia.com/Category:Windows_games has 270 articles total in this same category.
So obviously there is a lot to import. I was going to compare both list, and try to just copy over articles that didn't exist here already, but that is a lot to sort through. And the vast majority of them aren't here already. So I'm thinking I'll just grab them in batches, trying to keep the files under 10 megabytes in size, until I have them all imported. If any that are overwritten with a newer version aren't as good as the previous local version is, just hit undo. Dream Focus 21:29, September 16, 2010 (UTC)
- It is done, but it takes time for the server to update so much stuff. I keep looking at the My Contributions list, and see new things appearing. Same thing happened when I did it at the manga wiki. Dream Focus 23:07, September 16, 2010 (UTC)
Getting things working properly[edit | edit source]
If you see a red link template, please don't just delete it. Its best to import it from Wikipedia, since many other articles will be using it as well. Getting things to work is important. After a template has been imported, it may still show up as a red link for several minutes. You can click on it, and its there, but its still a red link, not loading in the article yet. Takes time for the server to update itself. But leave it be long enough, and it'll start working just fine. Dream Focus 13:07, September 19, 2010 (UTC)
Looks like my importing days are at an end[edit | edit source]
There are 17,940 pages on this wiki. I have made 16,933 edits, almost all of them importing pages to this wiki. I don't recall how many pages there were before I got started, but a lot of them are here now are because of me. That means far more traffic from people coming in after using Google to search for something, and with more stuff around, people are more likely to take the time to edit, most ignoring Wikis with few articles and few active users about.
I would've liked to have finished what I started, but my administrative rights have been taken away from me, because one or two editors didn't like what I was doing, and cited some lame old rule that administrators must be voted on by other administrators, despite that being done almost never in the past four years, and not how most administrators got their titles anyway. Three administrators have edited this month]. Most haven't been here in a year. Where it list users, remember, those are names in the histories of the articles I imported, there never that many people around. So just check on administrators and bureaucrats to list, and then sort by "last edited". Dream Focus 21:27, September 19, 2010 (UTC)
I can fix the templates[edit | edit source]
I figured out how to solve the template problem. Just eliminated a large number of them, so they won't load up anymore. Working on the rest now. Dream Focus 01:34, October 29, 2010 (UTC)
