re: deletions[edit source]

I shall remember that in the future, I didn't really know if I should delete or keep so I just left it as is when I deleted.

And thanks for the welcome back, it's nice seeing that there's a few more editing here now even though it's not a huge increase from when I joined. Though I gotta say I still fear all those imported wikipedia pages. Veilor 13:41, August 11, 2011 (UTC)

New Admin Nomination[edit source]

Just wanted to let you know - Jello Rabbit nominated someone for Adminship last week. I don't know if you saw it or not, but it's there when/if you are ready to vote. Zmario 13:14, August 15, 2011 (UTC)

It was you. Conker's Bad Fur Day 14:10, August 15, 2011 (UTC)
I know it was me, I just wanted to tell Adan so he would know. He would have seen who it was anyway. Zmario 15:29, August 15, 2011 (UTC)
Saw it, thanks. I'm still thinking about how I intend to respond, though. I should have something in the next few days. It's not really voting, though, as the result's not decided by a simple count. - Adan Aileron (talk) 21:04, August 16, 2011 (UTC)

Categories by game rating - SOLUTION![edit source]

I read your comment on the Category:Mature games talkpage and how you thought the category was favoring the ESRB system, and the one you proposed still didn't seem quite right. I was thinking like this:

  • Category: ESRB: Early Childhood, Everyone, Everyone 10+, Teen, Mature, Adult (Kids-Adult maybe)
  • Category: CERO: A, B, C, D/Z
  • Category: PEGI: 3, 7, 12, 16, 18
  • Category: ACB: E, G, PG, M, MA 15+, R 18+, X 18+

(I'm not positive if these are the current ratings we classify games with on this Wiki)Tell me what you think of this idea. Zmario 22:59, August 21, 2011 (UTC)

{{Gamerate}} has a more-or-less complete list of ratings systems that are or were used to rate games.
Anyway, I was thinking of something that looks like:
  • Games rated everyone by the ESRB
  • Games rated teen by the ESRB
  • Games rated mature by the ESRB
  • Games rated 3+ by PEGI
  • Games rated 12+ by PEGI
  • Games rated A by CERO
  • etc...
Could you elaborate on the problems you see in a setup like that? Also, it's not quite clear to me what you are proposing as an alternative. Please clarify your intent. - Adan Aileron (talk) 13:12, August 22, 2011 (UTC)
In my opinion, the categories you suggest seem to be monotonous. If people were to identify it using the "Category:ESRB: Everyone or Category:ESRB:E" it will be short, yet people will understand the meaning. People can easily identify that its a rating by the letters in front. I don't think you need to say "Games rated" if the Game Rating acronym follows it. It will be like having a category Games created by Nintendo for the Nintendo DS. That's why we just put it in a category: Nintendo games. It's hard to understand, I wish I could show you what I'm trying to tell you, but it's hard to put it in words :P Zmario 13:28, August 22, 2011 (UTC)
So, what you are saying is the categories should look like...
  • ESRB: E
  • ESRB: T
  • ESRB: M
  • PEGI: 3+
  • PEGI: 12+
  • CERO: D
...for the sake of brevity? If so, I will accept that line of reasoning and give the go-ahead for the category setup you proposed. If I'm still not getting it, though, feel free to correct me. - Adan Aileron (talk) 13:43, August 22, 2011 (UTC)
Exactly! Thank you very much. Zmario 17:19, August 22, 2011 (UTC)

Wiki Gaming discussion[edit source]

Since you are an active admin here on the hub, please join the discussion about it's future here, here and here.

also you have some user vandalism/spam here

Hey[edit source]

Remember me? Jello Rabbit? I got a name change if you are wondering, by staff in early August 2011. So uh, this wiki really needs build-up and sysops. I really think this wiki also needs a skin redesign. Could we get to it? Thank you. Conker's Bad Fur Day 23:15, October 24, 2011 (UTC)

Yes, I know.
Anyway, this wiki needs editors most of all. However, the admin role should go to editors trusted to use it properly.
With regard to the skin, what do you suggest? - Adan Aileron (talk) 01:55, October 26, 2011 (UTC)
Red coloration, black coloration. Anything that comes to mind. Another question. Can I please add anything in video games such as worlds, enemies, guides, etc.? Conker's Bad Fur Day 21:47, October 26, 2011 (UTC)
So, just "something different" then? Well, maybe the gaming team will have some ideas regarding the theme. Anyway, I'm not sure why you're asking permission to add content. Is there some style point you would like to discuss? - Adan Aileron (talk) 14:31, October 27, 2011 (UTC)
I mean minor stuff in games. Conker's Bad Fur Day 14:55, October 28, 2011 (UTC)

Thank you, Adan for promoting me to admin with the very limited comments that have been made. In fact, I was just about to tell you to close the nomination altogether, due to the lack of comments. I hope I can prove to be a useful asset. Zmario 19:41, November 16, 2011 (UTC)

Video Game Wiki and Wiki Gaming[edit source]

There was a small discussion in the Wiki Skype group. Basically, we figured what's the point of having two wikis dedicated to video games when we could combine and form a bigger and better wiki? What do you think, it was said that we should discuss this in the new year as staff are like, on break or something. But what do you think? Personally, I'm all for it. – zzi 19:50, December 22, 2011 (UTC)

Sounds good to me. - Adan Aileron (talk) 20:12, December 22, 2011 (UTC)

Wiki Gaming Association[edit source]

Hi there. I'm an administrator from the Metro 2033 Wiki, a wiki oriented around the cult classic Metro 2033 videogame (soon to be series) and novel series (though this is a subsection). I've noticed that a lot of the Wiki's orienting around gaming such as the Dead Space wiki have a neat little inter-wiki template. Try as I might, I can't understand how this operates, so I was wondering if I had to maybe sign my wiki up for this group perhaps? If so, could you help me with how I would go about such things? Chaosian 02:53, January 30, 2012 (UTC)

My apologies for the late reply. Anyway, I checked the Dead Space main page and the template you're interested is on the Wiki Community Central wiki. I don't really involve myself with footer templates like that one, though, so I can't really tell you more than that. I hope that was at least somewhat helpful. - Adan Aileron (talk) 02:43, February 15, 2012 (UTC)

Wiki Gaming name change[edit source]

Hi Adan. Since you're the only truly active admin on this wiki, I wanted to bring your attention to this blog post I just made regarding the name change of this wiki. Please leave any feedback in the comments section of the blog post. Thanks. JoePlay http://images2.wiki.nocookie.net/__cb33036/wiki/images/e/e9/WikiStaff.png (talk) 21:46, April 4, 2012 (UTC)

I've responded on that page. - Adan Aileron (talk) 19:06, April 5, 2012 (UTC)
Just another heads up to let you know I just posted three new possible logos (using Codex Gamicus) in the comments section of the blog post. JoePlay http://images2.wiki.nocookie.net/__cb33036/wiki/images/e/e9/WikiStaff.png (talk) 23:32, April 10, 2012 (UTC)
When you get a chance, please take a look at the Codex Gamicus logos I mentioned in my previous message, and leave your feedback so that we can move forward with the name change. Thanks. Cheevo Archive Wiki Request for Afiliation[edit source]

Hi Admins of the Gaming Wiki,

I am here on behalf of the Cheevo Archive Wiki in order to make a request of the Gaming Wiki.

Firstly, I guess I should give you a rundown on exactly what Cheevo Archive Wiki is. Well basically it is a wiki that was made in order to provide easily accessible guides and to Video Game achievements/trophies. The wiki was formed on February 28th 2012 and so far is going pretty well. We were approved of Wiki Spotlight on the 22nd of March and are now working on getting some partnerships going with other affiliated Video Gaming wiki's such as this one.

So now the big question, would the Gaming Wiki be interested in forming some kind of affiliation/partnership? We would add a link to the wiki on our main page and add the Wiki to our list of Affiliated Wikis (not created yet). We believe the partnership could be mutually beneficial.

I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on this request.

Cheevo Archive Wiki Small.png .50CalAssassin 10:54, April 21, 2012 (UTC)

Hello. Thanks for considering us, though I'm not sure how much benefit you might gain, since as a general gaming encyclopedia, Codex Gamicus covers everything Cheevo Archive does and then some. Still, though, it couldn't hurt to discuss this. Were you looking for a link trade (i.e. a link to your wiki in exchange for a link from it) or did you have something else in mind? - Adan Aileron (talk) 17:57, April 22, 2012 (UTC)

What we have done with other wikis is we put a link to theirs on our mainpage and they put one to ours on their mainpage.

Achievements[edit source]

Just thought I would get your opinion on enabling achievements for the Wiki. Zmario 20:26, April 26, 2012 (UTC)

To be honest, I am not a fan of Wiki's achievement system. It tends to encourage bad edits by people gaming the system for badges. - Adan Aileron (talk) 23:31, April 26, 2012 (UTC)
I thought of that as well, which made me sort of hesitant to ask you. As for now, what is the most important thing that needs to be done for the Wiki? Like is there a page that has a "To-Do List" or do we just keep adding things little by little? Zmario 09:19, April 27, 2012 (UTC)
No harm in asking, really, so don't worry about that. As for your other question, I think the most important thing to do right now might be to deal with the mess caused by the mass import of pages from Wikipedia. At a minimum they should be cleaned up and updated, though it wouldn't hurt to recreate as many as possible. After that, there's always Category:Things To Do, but any actual list article is likely to be out-of-date. That's just my opinion, though. - Adan Aileron (talk) 13:45, April 28, 2012 (UTC)

Revisiting: Video Game Wiki and Wiki Gaming[edit source]

I was wondering if you guys still wanted to go through with this? As this would enable both wikis to become stronger in content. We were originally going to merge but Video Game Wiki had an inactive spell. Currently, Video Game Wiki is active and I've started a new discussion on merging. However, it's a multi-wiki job. Also, per this thread it mentions about the inactivity on VGW and how in a week we were going to check, however, we never checked back in a week. Just wanting to get your opinion on it. Cheers, Jazzi 22:30, April 28, 2012 (UTC)

I was wondering why nothing had happened regarding that. Anyway, yes, I'm still in favour of a merge. - Adan Aileron (talk) 13:11, April 29, 2012 (UTC)
I'll be messaging KillHil shortly then. --Jazzi 20:11, April 29, 2012 (UTC)

I've created at thread like user-subpage after this message. --Jazzi 00:06, May 2, 2012 (UTC)

Hey, I really don't want to sound pushing, but do you think you could provide some input in the thread that I've created for the move. Thanks, Jazzi 21:52, May 9, 2012 (UTC)

RPG Portal Split[edit source]

Hey Adan. Over the last year or so I've been adding any gaming Wikis I come across to our portals and I've noticed that the RPG Portal has become pretty big. Do you think splitting it into a Japanese RPG Portal and a Western RPG Portal would be a good idea? I realize its certainly not the biggest Portal, but it's one that can be broken down into two easily identifiable categories, of which games from one are noticeably distinct from games of the other. What do you think? -Revitalizer 19:04, April 29, 2012 (UTC)

Sorry about the delay responding to this. Anyway, I'm not sure a split into two pages is warranted at this time. It could be split into two lists on the same page, though, at least for now. - Adan Aileron (talk) 03:26, May 6, 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the input Adan. I took your advice and whipped up a dual-portal of sorts. If you could take a look at it and tell me if it can be greenlit, I'd appreciate it. Thanks! -Revitalizer 16:21, May 13, 2012 (UTC)
Looks good to me. - Adan Aileron (talk) 14:43, May 15, 2012 (UTC)
Thanks Adan! I've implemented the new portal. -Revitalizer 01:38, May 16, 2012 (UTC)

Adding Wiki to portal list[edit source]

Hi, I would like to add our wiki, http://zombiejombie.gamepedia.com/Zombie_Jombie_Wiki to your portal list but I'm not sure how to do it. Zombie Jombie is a free to play card battling iOS game and our wiki currently have 179 pages. DinoKev 05:04, May 5, 2012 (UTC)

Actually, it looks like you've already correctly added Zombie Jombie to the free-to-play portal on the 28th of April, or did you mean something else? - Adan Aileron (talk) 03:34, May 6, 2012 (UTC)

It did not appear on the Portal:Full Wiki List when I first added it so I thought I did it incorrectly. I think it takes some time for links to show up when the portals are updated. Anywhere thanks for replying. DinoKev 10:54, May 6, 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, it can take a while before it shows on the full list. Anyway, you're welcome. - Adan Aileron (talk) 00:50, May 7, 2012 (UTC)

Kickstarter Games[edit source]

Hello there Adan,

My name is Jorge and I am a member of the Community Development team here at Wiki! With all the excitement around Kickstarter, the changes it may be having on the games industry, and the fascinating projects that have found funding or are still looking for funding, we would love to create a regularly updated spotlight and archive on these crowd funded games. We were thinking about the best ways possible to do this and were hoping to get your thoughts and insight.

I was leaning towards creating a Portal similar to the front page portals that have three boxes: Current Kickstarter Games, Funded Kickstarter Games, and Featured Kickstarter. I'd love to know what you and the other active admins think! Let me know on my talk page!

Best, Jorge <staff/>(profile)•(talk) 22:42, May 25, 2012 (UTC)

Is the merge set to happen? If so one of us should contact staff. Jazzi 16:53, May 31, 2012 (UTC)

I think so. No-one's objected, as far as I know. If you do contact staff, please feel to share what they say. - Adan Aileron (talk) 00:08, June 4, 2012 (UTC)
I've sent in the message. Jazzi 22:43, June 4, 2012 (UTC)

I have gotten the response. video-game.wiki now redirects here. I'm waiting for the dump to finalize. Should we start a discussion on policies/site administration/category stuff? Jazzi 23:21, June 5, 2012 (UTC)

Sorry, forgot to add the message they had sent:

Hello Jäzzi,

Video Game Olympics[edit source]

Hi Adan,

Wiki is going to be hosting a Summer Video Game Olympics where you get to vote on which of your favorite video game characters would win in olympic events. We have big plans for this, it's going to be super fun, and we'd love to run the tournaments on this wiki and I just wanted to make sure you were cool with it! I'm going to leave messages for a few of the other recently active Admins... Let me know!

Peter<staff /> 21:01, June 23, 2012 (UTC)

Hi again Adan,

Just want to make sure you guys are excited to have this run on the Gaming Wiki. Please get back to me as we'd like to kick this off end of next week!

Watchlist problem[edit source]

Hi, I have chronic fatigue and it takes time to read e-mails saying a page I had done has been edited, along with deleting them and all. I have tried several times now to unsuccessfully remove multiple titles from my Watchlist, as I get this message when I try to update my list:

Set $wgShowExceptionDetails = true; at the bottom of LocalSettings.php to show detailed debugging information.

Could you or someone else please look into this? Going into each and every single page to individually unfollow it is going to take up a bit of time, rather than doing them all in one fell swoop like I've been trying to do.

Darrylb500 (talk) 20:22, July 24, 2012 (UTC)

Hi. Sorry to hear about your medical difficulties. Unfortunately, there isn't really anything I can personally do to help. However, you might want to contact staff about this problem, turn off email in your preferences, or, depending on what you use for email, set up a filter to remove those emails for you. I hope this helps you. - Adan Aileron (talk) 12:16, July 25, 2012 (UTC)

Looking for template[edit source]

Hi, looked at ListUsers and you were the only active crat so I figured you're the guy to go to for Qs. I would like to advertise your Gaming Wiki on the home page of various gaming (mostly facebook) wikis that I created/adopted/edit. Do you know if there is a template for doing this?

I am interested particularly in creating projects that consolidate Wiki projects for various games made by the same company. For example, I play a couple Digital Chocolate games, like w:c:ZombieLane, w:c:ArmyAttack and w:c:GangsOfBoomtown.

My hope is eventually, tagging it this way will perhaps allow them to be tracked and organized so I don't forget to improve or maintain them, and maybe to attract other editors or gamers or enforce some kind of standard in appearance or quality.

I know that w:c:AniManga has their w:template:animangafooter which they have members embed and am wondering if there is a similar footer for gaming wikis in general? +Yc 18:04, August 6, 2012 (UTC)

Hi. The only template I know of w:template:Wiki Gaming Footer. This might be what you're looking for, but read the talk page before editing if you decide to do that. - Adan Aileron (talk) 00:04, August 8, 2012 (UTC)

Skin Change?[edit source]

Hey there Adan!

My name is Jorge and I am on Wiki's Community Development team. As you may have noticed, I also maintain the kickstarter portal here. I was finally getting around to looking at the wiki as a whole and decided I think it might be time to create a skin for the wiki. Ideally it would be something that is not console or game specific, something which shows the variety of game stuff we have on the wiki. Someone pointed me to this revision 3 skin as a good example. I also like the skin on video.gamepedia.com. I was told I should talk to you since you seem to be the only active admin. Is this something you would be ok with? If so, I can have someone on Wiki's design team create something that should be appealing. Let me know. If I don't hear back in a couple weeks or so, I'll move forward on it and we can always get ride of it later.

Best, Jorge <staff/>(profile)•(talk) 21:02, September 7, 2012 (UTC)

That seems ok. If you're taking suggestions, I'd like to see some emphasis on non-video games (e.g. board/card games), but in any case, I'm quite interested in whatever the design team comes up with. - Adan Aileron (talk) 02:05, September 10, 2012 (UTC)

Spam filter[edit source]

I've been cleaning up the character categories the past week (moving pages from "Male/Female video game characters" to "Male/Gemale characters") and I came upon one page, Ayu Tsukimiya, that cannot be edited, due to one of the links that lead directly to a hentai site. Is there a way to fix it, because it's a pretty big article and it's the last page needed to be recategorized. Zmario 12:04, November 22, 2012 (UTC)

Odd Request[edit source]

Hey Adan, I have a bit of an odd request regarding my outreach to Wiki communities on behalf of Codex Gamicus. Over the last year or so I've been adding quite a few Wikis to the Portals, updating listings to reflect new article counts, as well as congratulating or welcoming those communities. Being an Admin is probably unwarranted given my lack of other activity here, but would you consider allowing me to represent Codex Gamicus in some official capacity, like Ambassador?

On an unrelated note, the Portals as they exist now are very nonuniform and messy. Would you be open to some type of redesign in the future (though not immediately)? Perhaps I could reach out to JAlbor or make a Content Team request when the time came? -Revitalizer (talk) 06:14, November 30, 2012 (UTC)

With regard to your outreach to Wiki's other gaming communities, I suppose that's ok. Is there anything I would need to do for that?
As for the portals, I agree they could definitely use a redesign. I'm not sure how involved the Content Team is with the portals these days, but I don't see any harm in asking. Nic Wagner is another possible person to contact.
One last thing: I appreciate all the effort you've put into keeping the portal pages updated for as long as you have. - Adan Aileron (talk) 02:58, December 1, 2012 (UTC)
Thank you! I'm happy to be able to compile and list these Wikis, many of which are fantastic resources.
I don't think anything besides making allowances falls on you. Perhaps a request here and there to review and greenlight some policies and goals Codex Gamicus has in connecting to Wiki's gaming communities that I might articulate soon, but that's about it.
I'm glad you're up to seeing the Portals revamped too. If you have any ideas about what would be good to include in the new design or any standards for it, please share at some point. Leading up, might it make sense for me to start some community discussion to see if other Admins/editors have ideas too? -Revitalizer (talk) 03:35, December 1, 2012 (UTC)
If you could let me know what you think about the Unification Project which I'm proposing, I would be very grateful. -Revitalizer (talk) 04:40, December 1, 2012 (UTC)
I think it might be a good idea to reduce the number of columns from 4 to 3 on the portals, as they were designed for a wider text area, but I don't feel that strongly about it.
The unification project seems to be a reasonable idea. I'm not sure how much use it will actually see, but running it may be the best way to find out. - Adan Aileron (talk) 00:04, December 4, 2012 (UTC)
That sounds good; the double-lining of long listings is definitely an annoyance. You're right that the UP will probably end up my pet-project on Codex Gamicus's end of things. That being said though, I have managed to organize/encourage a few prior mergers outside of my new role here so I think I can have an effect on cleaning up Wiki's gaming community. -Revitalizer (talk) 02:51, December 4, 2012 (UTC)

Wiki Features[edit source]

Hey Adan, before we go through with any redesign, do you think it would be a good idea to enable some of the Wiki Features? Codex Gamicus has been without a working Forum for some time now and Wiki's new Forum feature seems like a perfect replacement. Category Exhibition can also be very helpful with it's sorting options for displaying pages in a category. What do you think? -Revitalizer (talk) 19:12, December 14, 2012 (UTC)

Additionally, could you let me know if the suggestions listed here are acceptable and if the final proposed layout sounds good? Thanks! -Revitalizer (talk) 01:56, December 19, 2012 (UTC)
Hey Adan, sorry to bother you again before the redesign starts, but another suggestion was brought forth since you ok'ed the last ones. User T3CHNOCIDE recommended that we reexamine the Portal star colors and Zmario and myself agreed. T3CHNOCIDE also offered to create a new set that followed a more logical pattern:
Hubstar-black.png - Black File:Hubstar-Pearl.png - Pearl Hubstar-bronze.png - Bronze File:Hubstar-Silver.png - Silver Hubstar-gold.png - Gold File:Hubstar-Platinum.png - Platinum
What do you think about implementing these? -Revitalizer (talk) 00:30, December 29, 2012 (UTC)

iOS[edit source]

I was looking around the Portal with the complete list of game wikis and I noticed a bunch of Facebook games. I haven't looked through every game on the list, but some of these seem similar in style to some iOS games. Does this wiki list/allow games for the iOS platform? If so, what would I need to do to get a game (and the corresponding wiki) on the list of Casual Games? — Moonrise1 (talk) 19:51, January 12, 2013 (UTC)

Yes, iOS games are allowed. Instructions for getting a wiki listed on that portal are available at Portal:Casual Games/Wikis. - Adan Aileron (talk) 20:13, January 12, 2013 (UTC)
Thanks. So I just add it to the list, I don't have to fill out an application-like thing? — Moonrise1 (talk) 23:26, January 12, 2013 (UTC)
Yes, that's correct. There's no application process you need to go through. You're welcome. - Adan Aileron (talk) 01:29, January 13, 2013 (UTC)

New Colour Theme[edit source]

Hey there,

I was just wondering about the recent theme change from white & blue to green & blue. I just wanted to express some concerns about the new colour scheme as I believe that green and blue may clash a bit too much and detract from the readability and professional appearance of the wiki. Might I help suggest some better colour themes which will also match all the logo's, templates, etc. that have been optimized for the previous theme.

I was somewhat surprised by this as well. Anyway, I've reverted Zmario's change as it was done without any attempt at gaining a consensus at all. You are, of course, still free to suggest a different colour scheme if you wish. Sorry about that. - Adan Aileron (talk) 17:07, January 13, 2013 (UTC)
Ah, I did wonder about the colour scheme and the abrupt change :P At the moment I believe the current colour scheme is the most professional looking and readable theme available to a wiki with such an vast number of subjects, I just wanted to suggest something that was different in order to steer clear of to the green and blue scheme haha.
At the moment I am preoccupied with some serious deadlines, however on Wednesday I will be clear to work on what I like again - after this I was wondering if you would be opposed to me designing some new backgrounds that still maintain a the professional simplicity the wiki currently has, but also add more of a gaming theme to the wiki :)

Theme Design.[edit source]

I was testing something out and forgot to switch it back, my mistake. But I did want to talk to you about the current theme. The blue/white scheme is sort of bland, don't you think? I wanted to try out something about getting a custom background or something that screams "VIDEO GAMES". If you like it, leave it. But I want you to know that I dislike it. Zmario 02:08, January 14, 2013 (UTC)

Ok, so you dislike the current colours. However, there's at least one editor who prefers it to the red/blue setup you had it as. At any rate, this is something that should not be done without consensus. You might want to create a test wiki to show off proposed colour schemes without the risk of mistakes like that. At any rate, what's done is done, but please be more mindful in future of the fact that theme designer changes affect all users.
Also, Codex Gamicus is not just about video games. - Adan Aileron (talk) 23:46, January 14, 2013 (UTC)
Absolutely. Thanks for being so understanding about it. Zmario 23:55, January 14, 2013 (UTC)
On that note, when are we going to change over to the new portal stars? Zmario 02:15, January 14, 2013 (UTC)
About those stars, can one of you two add these classes that correspond to the new stars to MediaWiki:Wiki.css? Thanks! -Revitalizer (talk) 23:23, January 14, 2013 (UTC)
*snip*
Ok, the text that was there is now in Wiki.css. I left the current stars in until the actual portal pages can be updated. They can either be deleted later or just left in. - Adan Aileron (talk) 23:46, January 14, 2013 (UTC)
Sounds good. When can we start updating the portal pages? Zmario 23:55, January 14, 2013 (UTC)
Very good. The stars look a little small at 12px though, might we experiment with 13 or 14? We can also update at any time now, Zmario (exciting!). All we'll have to update though is some of the blacks to pink -Revitalizer (talk) 00:20, January 15, 2013 (UTC)
Ok, here goes...

How are those? - Adan Aileron (talk) 16:38, January 16, 2013 (UTC)
Do either of you think 13 would be worth trying? -Revitalizer (talk) 23:54, January 17, 2013 (UTC)

Use of Wordmark[edit source]

Hey there Adan Aileron,

I've popped the wordmark for Codex Gamicus on our homepage and linked it to here under the pretenses of a "community link". I'm essentially writing this message just to ask if you are ok with this, and give consent to the use of this wiki's logo on our homepage?

Kind regards,

USER T3CHNOCIDE-Signature-Small.pngUSER T3CHNOCIDE-Contact.png 10:48, April 11, 2013 (UTC)

I had a look, and sure, that looks reasonable. I'm ok with how the logo is currently used. - Adan Aileron (talk) 02:15, April 12, 2013 (UTC)

Article Page for Wiki's Twitch Streams?[edit source]

Hey there, Adan Aileron. My name is Doug and I'm a member of Wiki's Community Development Team! Wiki has begun a new weekly segment called "Twitch Tuesdays" where members of our staff play newly released games every Tuesday and broadcast them to Twitch.tv. We wanted to ask you if it would be alright to create an article page on this wiki to serve as a 'hub' of sorts. We'd pull in an upcoming calender, links to previous broadcasts, and other things like that.

Would that be alright with you? Thanks, I appreciate it!

Doug <staff /> (profile)•(talk)•(email) 23:29, April 12, 2013 (UTC)

I guess that's ok. - Adan Aileron (talk) 00:15, April 15, 2013 (UTC)
If you were to pop a small portal for the Twitch TV streams on the mainpage and link the wiki during Twitch streams you could probably get a lot of "productive" traffic on the wiki :)

Featured Wikis[edit source]

Hello again,

With the gaming portals I've noticed that the "featured wikis" have not been updated in a while, I fear that a lack of regular updates to these pages may lead to the staleness seen on the previous portals. Instead of having one wiki, would you be opposed to having several wikis (5-10) per portal that used the <option> tags in order to cycle through them upon page refreshs? This would help to spice things up a bit and also reduce the load of having to constantly update them.

Regards,

Hello[edit source]

Are you looking for a sysadmin/webmaster for this wiki? I will usually fix all the tech problems and add any necessary/requested features. I'm currently the sysadmin of the Big Bang Theory wiki so I have some experience with wiki. I have also worked in <snip>. I've 3 or 4 years of experience of being a sysadmin. I won't act as a "real" admin, just a user with admin right to maintain the wiki.

Let me know. If it's possible, can you post a reply on my talk page so I'll get a notification. {{SUBST:User:Unnamed Airbender/Signature}} 21:33, May 11, 2013 (UTC)

Codex Gamicus Projects[edit source]

Greetings Adan! It's been awhile since I've been able to edit (computer problems as usual). Some stuff I wanted to go discuss with you:

  • Unused Images/Category Clean-up: I feel that it's neccessary to remove all unused categories/images on the wiki. See here and here.
  • Wikipedia Importing: Another topic I would like to bring up, is importing pages directly from Wikipedia. I know it's kind of a "placeholder" until someone gets around to editing it, but we seem to have a backlog of these pages, some dated back 3 years (probably even longer since the move). I would like your input on what you want to do about these pages, as well as any other future imports. Maybe give a 1-2 month editing phase for the pages, if they remain unchanged, they get deleted? Because this is more for video gaming, as were a Wikipedia page is just about content in general.
  • Page merging/Duplicate pages: Another problem is the excess of duplicate pages/categories/etc. that are popping up. I think we should either merge the information into one page, or delete the page that seems less informative.

As usual, I've been going through the uncategorized pages, wanted categories, scanning for anything that can be done, or changed, unless it's a major revamp for the Wiki. Then I would discuss it with you.

So, that's basically the gist of my projects I would like to get started. If you have any input on these, feel free to post it on my talk page, or here, whichever you prefer.

Regards, Zmario 16:47, May 28, 2013 (UTC)

E3 Coverage/Highlights[edit source]

Plans[edit source]

Hello. I'm TwoTailedFox. Myself and a few others have a project we'd like to discuss. It's come to our attention that Wiki's wikis focused on Gaming, Technology and Software have either outright failed, or are so unorganised that they are not fit for purpose anymore. Part of this problem is the fractured nature of Wikis. On Wikipedia, it's much, much simpler to link to articles when they share a common theme, and I feel we can do this at Wiki. We'd like to use gaming.gamepedia.com as a main 'Hub' of Gaming-related articles, including any gaming articles from pc.gamepedia.com, microsoft.gamepedia.com, linux.gamepedia.com, google.gamepedia.com, and apple.gamepedia.com (assuming they all consent to a merge). We'd also like to initiate a mass clean-up of content on the site, enshrine actual content standards, and allow it to function like a true hub, where we highlight other Wiki Wikis on gaming pages (such as linking to the Call of Duty Wiki on Call of Duty game pages.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 13:51, July 25, 2013 (UTC)

If you're proposing mass deletions of any kind on this wiki, I may have to veto that plan. Otherwise, feel free to elaborate. Thanks for your interest. - Adan Aileron (talk) 21:09, July 27, 2013 (UTC)
Most articles would be kept. However, there are several articles that do not belong here. Aerith Gainsborough, Aerodactyl, Alisa Bosconovitch and other such characters from the Tekken series, to name but a few articles that shouldn't be here. 'Gaming' is far too generic of a focus for games to be covered in-depth like that; that's the domain of individual communities.
Game titles, consoles, gaming services, those types of articles are the domain of this Wiki. This Wiki is a victim of its own ambition. Right now, there is zero choice between here and Wikipedia, and that needs to change. This Wiki needs to reshift its focus, and concentrate on the bread-and-butter articles of Gaming.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 18:13, July 28, 2013 (UTC)
Hello?--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 22:41, July 31, 2013 (UTC)
I do not wish to limit the wiki's focus in the manner you've described. The only articles that "don't belong here" are unrelated to gaming altogether. As for ambition, it is far better to tried and failed (not that EG has failed, or is it, IMO, likely to) than never to have tried at all.
On the other hand, mass-copying from Wikipedia is something that should definitely stop. Other than that, there is a rather significant difference between EG and Wikipedia: notability. - Adan Aileron (talk) 04:06, August 2, 2013 (UTC)
As an admin on the Doom Wiki, I (mildly) resent the claim that "Wiki's wikis focused on Gaming... have either outright failed, or are so unorganised that they are not fit for purpose anymore". The Doom Wiki is a strong counterexample; despite being dumped by the original admins, who left to found another wiki, this wiki has continued to go from strength to strength under the new admins (if I do say so myself), to the point where it is more comprehensive than the newer one (compare the Strife pages for example). — RobertATfm (talk) 21:50, September 28, 2013 (UTC)

Listing Request[edit source]

Hello! I am the founder of the Hyperdimension Neptunia Wiki. I am here to request adding my wiki to the Japanese RPG section of your RPG portal. I wouldn't dare do it myself, especially since I don't know how this site quite operates.  My wiki currently has 300+ pages.

Alien Cabal — links concern[edit source]

I earlier today copied the Alien Cabal article from the Doom Wiki to here, because both I and the bureaucrat feel that this is not a Doom-related game and thus doesn't belong there, so it's nominated for deletion.

As intended, the creator of this article has thus started to edit this verson instead of the other one, and this is generally a good thing; but I have concerns over three of the links he added, namely to firstpersonshooters.net, gamegraveyard.net and fpsteam.it (though it's hard for me to tell in the last case as it's in Italian); all three appear to be "abandonware" (i.e. warez) sites, that is, they all have "download" links. Technopeasant doesn't seem to be aware that "abandonware" is illegal, since copyright doesn't cease merely because there is no longer anyone to assert it; I think someone official should remove those links, and send him a message explaining why. — RobertATfm (talk) 21:42, September 28, 2013 (UTC)

Stars Showcase Invitation[edit source]

Hey there Adan!

Wiki has recently been doing these short video conversations we call Expert Showcase. We'll be doing one sometime next month about Next-Gen Launch Titles. Seeing as Gaming.wiki covers all sorts of stuff, I thought it might be fun to invite you on the show to cover your thoughts on launch titles, what you'd like to see out of them, etc.

Participating is easy. We just ask you hop on a google hangout and chat about the game and your thoughts on the genre (of sorts). You can see an example right here. If you're interested, let me know on my talk page (or send an email to jorge@wiki-inc.com) and I'll send you more details and the like!

Thanks, Jorge <staff/>(profile)•(talk) 16:54, October 10, 2013 (UTC)

Aaahh!!! Real Monsters[edit source]

Can you make Aaahh!!! Real Monsters (1996 video game) on Video Games Fanon Wiki, You deleted the page, so you have to bring it back on Video Games Fanon Wiki, Please? The Awesome User Ever! 05:53, November 11, 2013 (UTC)

The page Aaahh!!! Real Monsters (1996 video game) never existed. Could you provide a link to the page you're talking about that I supposedly deleted? - Adan Aileron (talk) 16:50, November 11, 2013 (UTC)

Sensei Wars Opportunity[edit source]

Hey there Adan!

Wiki's been working with 2K lately who just launched their Sensei Wars wiki community. As a part of that, we have access to the a bunch of in-game gold, and assets and whatnot for those interested in editing on the wiki. I figured I would reach out to some known and proven users in case they were interested. No pressure, but if you felt like checking the game out and getting some in-game currency and the like, just let me know on my talk page!

Best, Jorge <staff/>(profile)•(talk) 19:20, December 18, 2013 (UTC)

So, I'm back again...[edit source]

... and I've been speaking with others who are currently watching this Wiki. To put it bluntly, we've seen that you don't seem to be editing a lot, for whatever reason, and as a result, we don't think that this Wiki is being utilised to it's full potential. This wouldn't ordinarily be a problem if there was an active/competent administrative team in place, but there isn't one.

I'm here to formally ask for Bureaucrat rights to this Wiki to get this place cleaned up. I'm seeing a lot of spam, and a lot of unorganised content being added. So, I ask you, can we agree to work together to save this Wiki?--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 01:18, December 20, 2013 (UTC)

Absolutely not. To be equally blunt, at this point, I wouldn't trust you with admin rights let alone bureaucrat rights, especially given your ideas regarding how the wiki should be run. - Adan Aileron (talk) 14:15, December 24, 2013 (UTC)

Hello, Adan. I'd like to say that a member of wiki staff has been supporting our plan; we know it might be a big change, but don't worry :D!. This will be nonetheless constructive and will be a good encyclopedia when we're done with it. If you have doubts; Let us know!. We'll be happy to take some ideas from you on how we will proceed, after all; we're all in this together :D. also, I'd like to point out that Jal has cleared the list of inactive admins, and is supporting us in this quest to make the wiki better. If you don't trust us with admin the I dont know who you can trust, we're experienced admins of other wikis and I'd like to point out that you haven't been active that much and along with that, we've come to the conclusion you're only active to keep your rights, so I'd appreciate if you'd give either me or ttf bureaucrat or both. If you have any questions or queries, you can use ours or Jal's message wall, cheers! Samuel Najdowski (talk) 21:12, December 24, 2013 (UTC)

The concern about Alien Cabal which I raised on September 28 still exists. I don't want to be the one to remove those links or to warn Technopeasant about them, since not only am I just a (minor) user on this wiki, but if I did it that might appear to Technopeasant that I was having a go at him, whereas if someone else does it, it's just wiki politics. — RobertATfm (talk) 03:58, December 20, 2013 (UTC)
I don't see any links to sites that facilitate copyright infringement on the page in question as it is now. Fpstream.it only seems to have demos, patches and games that were made freely downloadable by their publishers. Perhaps you could have another look and let me know if you still think differently or I've misstated your concerns. - Adan Aileron (talk) 14:15, December 24, 2013 (UTC)
Check the history on Alien Cabal. I deleted the links in question.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 18:38, December 24, 2013 (UTC)
Hello! I just want to make it clear that I while I agree with some aspects of the plan to offer a site where the wiki can cover news and opinions on games, I also understand and respect Adan's desire to leave page creation open without deleting or forbidding pages dedicated to minor in-game things. I actually don't think the two are incompatible and that there is a happy middle-ground where we can link to existing wiki communities on game pages, so let users know they can find more information when appropriate, and also cover some news angles.
While I'd love to stick around and help out, I actually won't have much time. However, I've asked Raylan13, who also works on the game team here and curates the Kickstarter page to help out. I'm excited to improve this community even more and he should be able to see that to fruitiion!
Jorge <staff/>(profile)•(talk) 18:50, January 6, 2014 (UTC)

Hi, guys! Just wanted to check in here and introduce myself (howdy). Issues can come with some pretty passionate reactions, and sometimes those reactions can overshadow what are essentially decent points. So what I'd like to do going forward is to take this discussion to the forum - not only to avoid cluttering up Adan's talk page, but also to allow anyone interested to voice their opinions on the matters. (Link forthcoming).

I'd like to stress what this discussion will not be about: Wiki unilaterally deciding the issue for the community, removing rights from anyone, or giving rights to anyone. The latter can be another discussion, but only when this initial hammering out is complete. I'd like it to not cloud what, ultimately, is two sides trying to do what's best for the wiki and community.

Since there are a couple issues that have been raised, I'll set up the forum discussion with sections for each issue. I suspect that there is already agreement that exists for some things, but it's hard to see the forest for the trees when everything is clumped together. Any issues that can quickly be resolved, let's do so and move to the next. Let's also attempt to keep all discussion on that page ;) Raylan13<helper /> (talk) 20:08, January 6, 2014 (UTC)

Here is the link to the discussion. The forum highlight is just so users know there is a discussion happening. Raylan13<helper /> (talk) 20:31, January 6, 2014 (UTC)

Admin Clearing[edit source]

Hey there Adan!

I just wanted to see if you're cool with me removing admin rights from those folks who haven't logged in or edited in ages. The Admin list is bloated with people who haven't be around in years and it would help people know who to contact if we removed some of them.

Bureaucrat nomination[edit source]

Heya, Adan ;) Could you take a moment to leave your input on this RFB? The original user is Samuel Najdowski, but has since changed the user account name a couple of times. All told he's got around 4k edits if you include his bot work. Raylan13<helper /> (talk) 17:39, March 28, 2014 (UTC)

Long time no see![edit source]

Hey man, I finally got my new computer so I can start editing EG again. I see I've been stripped of my Admin title for the long-term inactivity, so I'll be putting in a new RfA in the future. I need to get back on track. Any new developments I should be aware of? I'm sure I've missed plenty. Just get back to me whenever you get a chance. Zmario 12:54, April 13, 2014 (UTC)
