Promoting GameInfo and Gaming wikis

It's great to see that you're promoting game info and other gaming wikis! I see your message calling for wiki owners to add game info and the gaming category to the side bar, it's a terrific idea. Do you have other ideas that we can work on together? --Eric 00:35, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Another idea for working together is to let Gameinfo "outsource" as much stuff as possible to individual gaming wikis. Gameinfo will retain a minimum of a basic introduction page on the game, and if other wikis have more detailed information with respect to that game, Gameinfo will refer ppl directly there. Also, individual gaming wikis may, for each game it talks about, list "related games" via Gameinfo, if those related games are outside the scope of the respective individual wiki. -Afker 00:46, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
That's a good idea. Rather than trying to cover games that other wikis already cover so well (e.g. Final Fantasy), another approach is to collect those that do not receive so much of a coverage yet.--Eric 21:01, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

Need some help from you

Hi Afker, I'm currently working on a Hub project, as you know. The design is there, and I need some help from you. I need to populate the pages "Other Genres", "Other Platforms", and "Other Companies." They're essentially tables which I have to put the right wikis to the right categories, say, World of WarCraft to MMORPG on Genre, PC on Platform, and Blizzard on Company. I know it's not fun. Would be glad if you could help a bit.--Eric 21:06, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

Would be glad if you help apread the word! =)--Eric 00:24, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
You probably want to make sure those links work, so I can find what you want me to edit ^^" -Afker 03:32, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
Hi Afker, thanks very much for you contribution in the Hub! In fact it's already been moved to here at Central. Hope that'd help newbies better to navigate the games they're looking for! --Eric 05:46, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
We should delete the draft Gaming hub page here on GameInfo. Let me know if I should do that. -- BillK (Wiki Staff) (talk) 05:54, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

License

Why don't you just add the template onto the image summary page? It seems easier than modifying a system message (especially one that I have no idea where it goes or how it functions). --SkizzerzTalk - Contribs 20:53, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Um, MediaWiki:Licenses creates a dropdown selection box so people don't have to remember what the templates are called. For example, the "Licensing" dropdown menu at w:c:AliceSoft:Special:Upload is created from w:c:AliceSoft:MediaWiki:Licenses. I argue selecting from a dropdown menu is easier than typing the template name, especially for the people not familiar with which templates are available. -Afker 02:10, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
Good point, done. --SkizzerzTalk - Contribs 16:21, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Izumo/Main Page

I just thought I'd drop by to clear up any confusion as to why I undid your edit to the main page. First and foremost, Izumo is really just a series disambiguation and info page, not the main page of a "mini wiki." Secondly, even though there are some sub-pages of Izumo, there are not nearly enough to elevate the pages status to that of a "mini wiki." Finally, and this is the main reason I took it off the main page instead of simply mentioning it somewhere else on the page, the series is comprised of eroges. Please note that advertising such games on the main page in a publicly viewable place is probably not a good idea (little kids who don't know what eroges are will probably click it to find out). If you can find a better spot to mention the series on the main page, then do so if you wish, but you should probably not include the genre in the description. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about what I just said. --SkizzerzTalk - Contribs 20:47, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

*shrug* The article themselves don't (and won't) contain any prohibited content. The only thing little kids can "click to find out" is that the games contains sexually explicit content, which any warning we can devise will probably tell them anyways. -Afker 23:11, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
K then, do whatever you want (short of the "mini wiki" that is, I could care less content-wise). --SkizzerzTalk - Contribs 23:40, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
What qualifications do you consider as needed for a section of the wiki to be consider a mini-wiki? I'm trying to encourage those ppl who can't get an entire wiki for their own games to come here and make a mini-wiki, instead of putting it on Scratchpad have a high chance of not ever being discovered by anybody else. To that ends I'd like to have one decent example of a mini-wiki established on here. I don't care if it's Izumo or something else. -Afker 04:08, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
I put it here for community input. --SkizzerzTalk - Contribs 20:44, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Izumo

Well, it appears that you've met all of the requirements for making Izumo a mini-wiki, so good job! Getting a custom logo for Izumo and sub-pages is not impossible, it just requires CSS3 (which not all browsers have), so let me know if you wish to do that. Based off the lack of response in the chat page, I'm guessing that the community is indifferent to hosting mini-wikis on GameInfo, so we are (going to host them). Also, go ahead and add it to the Main Page wherever you want! In a few weeks, I'll probably browse around scratchpad for gaming mini-wikis asking them to have it here instead... --SkizzerzTalk - Contribs 20:45, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Heh, I thought Izumo had already met the conditions for being a mini-wiki at the very moment you proposed those conditions d-: Anyways, I'm not very concerned with the custom logo issue. I have no personal interest in overridig the GameInfo logo. At most I'd use a template menu system that might incorporate a logo for Izumo to show up on all sub-pages. -Afker 02:43, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
