Some feedback

You have just deleted a page saying "Mancala World, the world biggest wiki on mancala games, has reached today (August 2, 2009) the 500 article mark. We are a multi-lingual project in 17 languages and always open to new editors."

claiming ...

"These articles are more than six years old, and many links referenced no longer work. I'm all for gaming journalism, but this was a project that didn't quite make it."

No, almost all of our articles have been edited/started in the last few years. In fact we got 363 new articles since I wrote the article on August 2, 2009. While there might be links that do not work, most of them do. We are now the last wiki on that kind of games after a Spanish wiki called Wikimanqala became defunct this year.

Question.

Hey! I hope you don't mind me using this talk page to discuss matters pertaining to this wiki. I had a suggestion for our index system. Having a list seems sort of....uninteresting. What I was thinking of was having a table format. Something like this:

Hey TTF, just wanted to let you know I got as much as the company index filled in as possible, I went through the major categories to find most of them. There's probably a lot more companies that we don't have pages for, or are buried within the walls of EG. Just a concern....

When it comes to the updated infobox for games, I just wanted to let you know that it creates a bunch of new categories that we already have. Mega Man 7 is a good example. We have a category "1995 video games" but the new infobox makes a new category "Games released in 1995". This means that we'll have 2 categories that are the exact same, just worded differently. And, unless we go through every single page in the entire wiki (which I doubt we will), there will be two categories floating around, unnecessarily . Z mario 23:47, April 30, 2014 (UTC)

Experts

This is a new idea I thought of the other day and I believe it was an awesome feature to implement. It's called "Codex Gamicus Experts", basically it's a giant list of users who want to become certain "experts" in categories (such as Snowyy likes to do Racing games, I like categories and adding information about in-game characters, etc). There is no limit to what users can pick, or how many "experts" we have for one category, and there is certainly no limit on editing. Z mario 10:58, July 18, 2014 (UTC)

Bot

Hey TTF! I made a bot account (made it an administrator and asked for a bot flag from Staff). I tested it out, and it works really well! Well, I wanted it to remove redlinks and broken templates, but apparently it can't do that. So for now, I can have it do general clean-up (adding templates such as stub, orphan, etc. general page clean-up, spelling, grammar, fixing oddball spacing issues). Yo bro!

Hey man, I want your opinion on this: which genre should we should be putting in for flight games? Flight simulation or Flight Simulator. I checked them over and both have respective categories, however, I'm not sure which is the correct one. I've been using "Flight simulation" for all my infoboxes. I also have a similar problem for List of SNES games/List of NES games (since it's the exact same thing as Famicom/Super Famicom.) Should we rename the proper lists so they reflect both systems? infoboxes

Since you're updating infoboxes, might I suggest adding primary links to wikis here on Wiki. You can see an example I suggested 3 years ago here with the template code here. The main reason is to easily direct users to a location with more info about the game, and if one doesn't exist it is know and they can create one. This system has been in use on the Animanga Hub for 5 years now, and we get users editing because they come from those wikis to update their stats.--Sxerks (talk) 16:08, October 3, 2014 (UTC)

A user has created a page (Pasang_penangkal_petir_murah) in a foreign language which I can't identify, much less read; but which is obvious spam. For now, I've edited the URL and contact details to prevent it being any use to the spammer, and added a deletion notice; but kindly kill it (and the spammer) with fire.

Moved back. A disambiguation page isn't a wise use the system (as a link to the article can be neatly added to the main article for that name). If this were a game with multiple releases beyond the two (as is the case for many a board game, I suspect), a disambiguation system would make a lot more sense then. If there is to be a page called simply "Strife", then by custom and convention it should be the page for the 1996 (relaunched 2014) original, since that one is the original and is still available. GameInfobox suggestions

Hey TTF, I noticed the "Features" section in the GameInfobox template had some options that were rather specific to Steam, but there aren't really any options specific to other systems, which I think would be a great addition to the template. I had some Nintendo-related ideas myself, such as games with amiibo functionality, or perhaps 3DS games that have StreetPass features. Maybe other systems' games could have their own options as well, like an Xbox Live or PSN connectivity option. What do you think?

I wanted to only put confirmed games, but I saw LEGO MARVEL's Avengers on the Main Page, so I thought that it wasn't too important. Aside from the really big games like Uncharted 4, DOOM, Hitman and Cuphead, there isn't anything else to add.

Wiki Gaming Idea

Hey sir!

Thomas gave me the rough idea of what you were thinking and I think it's a fine idea, I love seeing communities cross genre lines wherever possible.

Would it be tied into the genre portals on the gaming dot main page (In addition to GamesHub)? Or just the footers on the bottom of the existing game pages on gaming dot?

In my head it's sort of similar to the affiliate links we see on some Wikis, but with more community input and hopefully collaboration. Using gaming dot as a launchpad for people to find other cool Wiki communities is a great idea and should hopefully support GamesHub as well, which was designed with the same idea in mind.

Lemme know if I'm misinterpreting the idea or missing anything/you have any extra details. Hopefully we can get it going sometime soon!

Star Fox pages

Hey, been busy changing the infoboxes for the Star Fox Wiki. I just want to ask if it is ok to add the Star Fox Zero cover to the Star Fox Zero page here. I also wanna ask if it is ok that when I add some info to the Star Fox pages, if that info can be from our wiki but re-worded in some areas or more to be more original for this wiki. Spotlight Request

Hello. Codex Gamicus mostly qualifies for a spotlight - it really only needs two things. The first is simply to fill in the Mobile main page. The other is to sort out the uncategorized pages. I'll let the pages that are only categorized in work categories slide, but the thousand+ that have no category at all do need to be sorted somewhere. Something is odd about those pages. You are correct that there is/are category links at the bottom when you view them. But if you go to the categories they aren't actually in the categories. This sort of defeats the entire purpose of categorization :). It looks like the category links are added by the ElementInfobox template, although the generation of them is complicated enough that I do not know what might be going wrong. You appear to have built that template so perhaps you can sort it out -- I have also asked one of the more technical community support staff to take a look.

It looks like you were able to add something to your mobile main page. The interface to edit it can be frustrating but it does usually work in the end. At this point you will probably want to try to add something beyond "Syndicate" for your mobile visitors to see (?). It appears you were correct that is a caching issue; although not with the list of uncategorized pages, which correctly reported that those pages do not appear in any categories yet. A null edit pushes the categories through properly so the article appears in them. Which means the problem is with the page/category caching. Footers and franchise pages

Heya, TTF!

You may have noticed the games hub is... destroyed. It's my understanding that it isn't coming back in any form and that its features are being moved into different parts of the Wiki-verse. The footers program is remaining, to the best of my knowledge, but the promised franchise pages that were supposed to go on the hub now have no home.

I know individual games in a franchise were promised placement over here - would you be averse to us now including franchise pages as well? It would be myself and Pinkachu primarily dipping our toes in. While none of the existing pages would change per se (unless it's included in the footer), we might pop an update into the navigation.

On a connected note - it seems the Kickstarter portal that was originally here now has no home as well. Would you mind if I threw that back in once I received confirmation?

Classic Platforms

Hey mate, how are you?
While looking at the main page, I took a closer look at the platforms section, and maybe there are some things that would need to be changed—whence does a platform become classic? The Dreamcast was out in 1998, which makes it 18 years old, and the Playstation Portable is 10 years old, so, shouldn't all consoles older than Last Gen be considered retro? I wanted to discuss that because I felt like it might be necessary in the future.

Yeah, I see, but the problem with that is that it makes PSP a current platform and it makes Wii a retro platform so that's kind of a flawed system. Plus, if you look deep enough, there are people still making games for Sega Genesis or NES.

This is how you should have posted such a concern. I haven't looked at the deleted version of the page, but any supporting evidence of the game's existence should have been included in the page itself to make TTF's job as easy as possible in making a determination.
