Admin Rights

Went ahead and gave you admin rights too, since I checked out your other Wikis and can tell that you are a pretty good editor. Just make sure you don't get into any conflicts with the other admins on here and things should be alright. - Wagnike2 22:34, September 15, 2010 (UTC)

  • I removed your admin rights, as I was told my the other admins that I didn't properly follow the procedures set on this Wiki for granting someone admin rights and there was an issue with the whole process.   • Looking at the edit history of that page [1] its almost never been used in the four years its been there. Daikatana

Just hit undo to move to the previous edit. There are 4,712 articles total in the window games category, and only 270 were here already. Instead of going through and manually removing those 270 from the list, I just imported over all of them. Sorry about the few overwrites. Just undo it if the previous version was better. Can you take it back to the previous list please? It may look better now but the page is just too big. I can't edit the page because firefox crashes when I try. I would do it myself but my firefox won't let me.Veilor 06:25, September 18, 2010 (UTC)

Do you have any problems loading up Wikipedia:List_of_Xbox_360_games? I use Firefox and have no problems at all, other than it currently lagging a bit on wiki for that article. Might just be a temporary server problem, do to all the new information I uploaded. If necessary, we can reduce the articles size by cutting it into 6. Dream Focus 07:52, September 18, 2010 (UTC)
You can't really compare wikipedia and wiki as wikipedia probably have better servers that handle large pages better. But yeah if you could cut it, sure it would be great. But the problem is that it takes ages for the page to even load up. But try if you can fix itVeilor 22:22, September 18, 2010 (UTC)
I just tried to edit it, and after a long delay, it still won't let me see that page. No problems seeing it before. I'll try again later. Other large pages load up fine. Maybe the templates are causing problems. The Zelda character list page is 60k and it loads without problems, while this one is 128K. I'll try chopping it into at least two pieces later on if I can get to it again. Dream Focus 23:22, September 18, 2010 (UTC)

Yeah it loads better now, but I still question why we need the same template as wikipedia? Wikipedia have a lot of rules they empower, wiki gaming don't. Before it actually was just a list of the games now it's a lot more added which really REALLY could easily just been read on the actual games article pageVeilor 09:24, September 19, 2010 (UTC)

We do NOT need to copy wikipedia on everything. If it is copied at least remove all the redlinks and fix the templates. Same problem occured when Wiki gaming was formed by Encyclopedia gamia / GameInfo/ Cheatbase wiki. I had to remove a shitload of garbage and combine stuff. I do not want to do that again. So you better have a solution of merging the data and not erasing everything over with crap from wikipedia --Cs california 10:29, September 19, 2010 (UTC)
If you have a better looking template, then use it. I've imported some templates I noticed we needed. Very easy to fix, since there aren't that many which the game articles will be using. I think I got them all now. Most articles load up fine. And look at how few articles there were before hand, and now how many there are now? Over 90% of the game articles on this wiki I imported from Wikipedia. If anything was overridden that shouldn't be, then anyone watching that article, those who contributed and care about it, will notice the change and go and fix it. Most articles I've seen here are just stubs anyway, or no more than a paragraph. Dream Focus 13:14, September 19, 2010 (UTC)
What's to say we need a template on the list? It's worked perfectly fine as it is, just being a list. And it bugs me that everything is copied from wikipedia. I saw your recent addition to your page. We are NOT wikipedia so ofcourse THEIR template goes away from here. I'd rather see the list being reverted to it's original form, simple one paged list. Veilor 13:20, September 19, 2010 (UTC)
That list is nothing more than a category, without any other information but a link to things. Use a category for that. The list as it is now, shows other useful information to those interested in the topic. Dream Focus 13:25, September 19, 2010 (UTC)

Imports

I am neutral on the idea of importing pages as long as you fix the red links and fix the templates. Also please DO NOT import more than you can edit. I do not want to go around removing red links and integrating pages that were replaced. --Cs california 10:00, September 19, 2010 (UTC)

There is a bot that automatically turns red links into proper links to Wikipedia articles. [4] I asked its creator if there is a way to, instead of linking back to Wikipedia, anything that doesn't link to somewhere here, turned to regular text not a link. [5] And remember any page, even one with a few minor problems, is better than no page at all. The overwhelming majority of pages imported did not have any page here at all. If you see any template errors let me know. I think I imported all the gaming templates now, and only found two that didn't work at wiki and erased them. Dream Focus 13:24, September 19, 2010 (UTC)

Lucario is one of the pages you completely butchered. I imported it a year ago(before I fixed it up alot on Wikipedia), and fixed all the links and templates. Also, List of Pokemon is horrible. But more importantly, Pikachu and Charizard. While the Wikipedia version are good articles, you can't just c+p the whole code. If you have to, copy the text without code. I am going to revert some of your Pokemon imports, but you need to go back and fix what you did on other pages. That is unacceptable. Blake Talk·Edits 19:58, December 7, 2010 (UTC)
Yes, unfortunately some pages were overwritten. Just hit undo on any article that was messed up, and its fine again. The vast majority of articles imported over did not have anything here before them. Dream Focus 22:25, December 7, 2010 (UTC)

I lost my administrator rights after mass importing over thousands of game related articles from Wikipedia, so I can't help you. You'll just have to copy stuff over yourself. Put a Wikipedia template at the top though, so people know where the article is from though. Then it looks like this Dream Focus 12:19, February 5, 2011 (UTC)

Your Imports

What the hell were you thinking? You've managed to single-handedly create one of the single biggest messes I've ever seen on a Wiki.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 11:41, June 23, 2014 (UTC)

Yeah, that was four years ago. The place was empty so I filled it. Didn't work as well as I had hoped. There are now 20,041 pages on this wiki. I made 16,977 edits, almost all of them importing articles from Wikipedia. Things then grew on their own after that. Dream Focus 11:50, June 23, 2014 (UTC)

I knew there was a bot that eliminated red links, and mentioned that in a previous discussion. I tried to figure out how to get the Wikipedia templates to work here, assuming that they would, since it was identical to Wikipedia at the time. This place had very few editors and not a lot of articles, and most they did have were just stubs. I thought this way it'd give people something to build from, they able to expand the Wikipedia articles to include far more game data than Wikipedia would allow.   • Anyway, you can ask a Wiki staff to go through and rollback everything I did. I noticed when they advertised this wiki in the past, they mentioned how many articles it had. The bigger number is what attracted most people to start editing here I believe. Dream Focus 12:07, June 23, 2014 (UTC)

I assumed since more articles had been created, you had more editors these days. Anyway, there was a bot to remove all red links. I'm not sure if there is a bot to import missing pictures or not. You'd have to copy all their names to the Wikipedia export menu, and then get an administrator to import them here. Dream Focus 12:13, June 23, 2014 (UTC)
I was copying things from those list to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Export and importing them here still when they took my administrative rights from me, thus stopping that from happening. Have to get someone else to do it. Dream Focus 12:15, June 23, 2014 (UTC)

  • When someone is looking for information about a game, do they come here, or do they go and find a wiki dedicated to just that game? Why create articles for characters, items, etc, here instead of in the specific game wikis? Dream Focus 12:16, June 23, 2014 (UTC)
The same can be said about your imports. Why come here and browse a page with no picture, redlinks everywhere, and broken templates when they can view the REAL Wikipedia page and have none of those problems. Zmario 12:20, June 23, 2014 (UTC)
Good point. A blank page replaced by a page with text but no pictures, is still an improvement though. You can just talk to other active members on this wiki, see if they want it all undone, and ask a wiki staff member to do a rollback any article I changed, and to delete anything listed as being created by me. Look, I'm not going to drag this out any longer, what's done is done. If we can get a staff member to undo your imports, great. If not, we'll find another way. I just don't understand how someone can go from one wiki to another, mass import articles, and then leave without making an attempt to fix any of the problems themselves. I've been doing a bit of research

Well, research, and a little digging of your contributions across Wiki. I am gravely concerned both as to your above defense, your past and present conduct, and what you've done elsewhere.

First, let's get the nitty-gritty out of the way: you've been importing Wikipedia templates and articles across Wiki's Wikis; your main focuses have been this Wiki (until your SysOp privileges were revoked), and the Manga Wiki, though I have seen activity on seven others to also warrant concern. The Manga Wiki saw you upload, without prejudice, a very large number of both relevant and irrelevant templates ('relevant' being a relative term based on how likely a particular template is to be useful to the subject(s) of the Wiki at hand). Not only was this done seemingly indiscriminately, it also failed to do two things; it failed to properly cite the authors of the work you imported, and it by extension led you to neglect to self-cite articles afterwards with the "This contains material from Wikipedia" template. Based on your past user interactions, you know this is a requirement.

Your actions are in violation of the CC-BY-SA 3.0 license that upholds the right of content creators to be attributed for their work, and in doing so, you have undermined one of the foundation constructs of copyright for that license. I've taken the liberty of going through your Wikipedia history, and by all accounts, you're a competent human being, but on the wrong side of what the majority of the administration of Wikipedia wish for it. By that fact, it excludes you from the privilege of being able to cite ignorance as a defense; you know what is expected of you.

Your mass imports have also been inherently destructive and poisonous to this community, the very opposite of your intentions I suspect; instead of creating new content that could be exhibited as original and valuable, you provided tainted content that effectively robbed this Wiki of both contributors (who saw no point in tackling a project that large, to bring the articles in line with presentation standards) and readers (who were put off by a site that, for the most part, resembled a very poor imitation of Wikipedia, with content that quickly became stale and outdated), by imposing alien content without regard for its presentation, integration, or continued use after you were done with it.

At the very least, your edits need to provide a URL back to the original article source in the edit summary, or you need to manually edit each page you import, and add that Wikipedia template manually. Where possible, articles should be imported with their full histories, to provide complete compliance with CC-BY-SA, by giving every user who has contributed to that content the attribution that they deserve under the terms of the license.

As a final remark, I call attention to this comment you made earlier:

This is quite possibly, one of the most offensive things I have ever read from a user. To suggest that other users pick up the pieces after you're done with a project you no longer have the willpower or belief to maintain, is obscene. What you have done here, and what you continue to do elsewhere, is unacceptable. I urge you to seek the error of your ways.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 02:55, June 25, 2014 (UTC)

  • If you want what I did undone, you ask a Wiki employee to do it. Wikipedia has the tools to "nuke" a user's edits, and roll everything back they did. Nothing I can do to change things. Anyway, I made a mistake years ago here, as I explained already. As far the Manga wiki, vast numbers of articles were being deleted daily at that time, so I just copied over all of them. I do not know of any way to copy over entire histories, or to automatically place a tag linking back to original Wikipedia article. Whenever I saw something at AFD, for a long time I did do full history copying of articles to the manga wiki, to save it all, and I contacted the article's creators to show them where their work was at. I wanted to save all that content. What you did on my talk page on Wikipedia is rather immature. [6] Dream Focus 06:27, June 25, 2014 (UTC)
  • See how at http://dalebrown.gamepedia.com/Dale_Brown_Wiki when a lot of those articles were nominated for deletion years ago, I created a wiki for the guy's work, and I imported every article over, full history, and put the tag up top each one saying it was from Wikipedia? I can't do that to thousands of articles though. Strangely enough, I look at the history of articles there now, and the names of all the Wikipedia editors are gone and replaced by "default".
