WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$ is the first game in the WarioWare series. It made its debut in North America on May 21, 2003. A game consisting of a slew of about five second minigames (called microgames), WarioWare released to rave reviews extolling its unabashed zaniness and creativity. In Japan, it was released as Made in Wario and in Europe, Wario Ware, Inc.: Minigame Mania. A multiplayer party version of this game (meaning it uses the same microgames) was released for the GameCube: WarioWare Inc.: Mega Party Game$.

The success of the game has made it a modern example of what new genres can be created. WarioWare: Touched! and WarioWare: Twisted! are sequels.

Story[ | ]

Wario, relaxing by himself on his couch one day, spots a television report on a popular video game. Instantly recognizing the potential profits of video games, he sets out with a few of his misfit friends to create a video game company and get rich.

Gameplay[ | ]

As mentioned, the entire game is played with mini/micro games that last five seconds or less. Throughout the game, you encounter different characters, such as Jimmy, a blue haired disco dancer or Mona, an Italian girl with a bike. These characters serve no purpose other than to have cut scenes before and after the rush of microgames. Each character also has a different gimmick, such as "weird games" or "retro NES games".

The microgames are very quick. Their objective is always simple, but they never completely explain what you are supposed to do. The title of the microgame that quickly appears before it starts up is the only hint you get, which can be something like "Smash!" or "Pull!" In the few seconds you are given, players are to look at what they're given, figure out what to do, and then figure out what buttons do it, all with their gamer instinct. Then whether they're done or not, it's on to the next microgame.

There are about fifteen microgames per character level. You have three lives on each level, meaning if you mess up three times, you lose the level.

Microgames[ | ]

The microgames in WarioWare are simple yet fun. A lot of the microgames are based on old Nintendo classics, such as - games based on The Legend of Zelda, Duck Hunt, Metroid, Mario Paint, F-Zero, Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros., Dr. Mario, and more.
