Windows 98 (originally to be called Windows 97, codenamed Memphis), is a 32-bit operating system developed and published by Microsoft Corporation in 1998, as a successor to Windows 95. It expanded and built upon the success of Windows 95.
Features[edit | edit source]
Windows 98 included Internet Explorer 4.01 (a web browser), Outlook Express (an email & news client), Windows Address Book (an address book), FrontPage Express (an HTML editor), Microsoft Chat (a graphical IRC client), and Personal Web Server (a web server software application). Windows Desktop Update, an Internet Explorer 4 component, was integrated into the Windows 98 shell, such as the Quick Launch toolbar, Active Desktop, Channels, and the ability to minimize foreground windows by clicking their button on the taskbar, among others.
