x86-64 is the instruction set used in AMD and Intel's current 64-bit processors, and it debuted with the AMD Athlon 64 line of microprocessors. While this instruction set is used by both companies, their implementations varies slightly. AMD calls its implementation AMD64, while Intel named its implementation EM64T.
