With the first half of the 1940s occupied by World War II, the first real technological breakthrough related to video gaming came in 1947, when a patent was filed for a Cathode-ray tube amusement device. Only a prototype unit was ever constructed. In the following year, Turochamp a Chess simulator, would be developed, but the code required to run it was too complicated for the hardware at the time, and the code was subsequently never run on real hardware.
