Company of Heroes 2 is a real-time strategy video game, developed by Relic Entertainment and published by SEGA on June 25, 2013. Company of Heroes 2 is the sequel to Company of Heroes. This video game in the series focuses on the Eastern Front of World War II.

Gameplay[ | ]

In the game you control different units, there are three different types of units. There are vehicles, infantry and engineers. Infantry units can pick up new weapons, these new weapons can help lay down suppression fire on enemy units and it can help take out vehicles. The way you collect resources is you have to take objective points that are around the map. Once a unit is near the objective point it will being the capture phase. Players can build catches, catches can help increase the fuel or mutation income. If you establish a supply line to your headquarters then your income will increase. Units can take cover, when a unit takes cover it will reduce the amount of damage that you take. Cover can be trenches, walls, fences and it can be buildings. Units can enter civilian buildings, the downside to entering a building is it can catch fire and artillery or flamethrowers can easily destroy it. A new feature in this game is the weather mechanic. Units can get frostbite when they are caught in severe weather, as a result the units that suffer frostbite are easier to destroy. One of the new mechanics that affects the Soviets is Order 227, when Order 227 is in effect any retreating units are shot and killed.

Theater of War[ | ]

The Theater of War is a new mode in Company of Heroes 2; in the original Company of Heroes, the campaign is linear, while in Company of Heroes 2, the campaign is now a part of the Theater of War. In this mode, you can choose to play single-player scenarios and missions, and co-op missions. There are eighteen missions in the campaign.

There are three factions in the game.

  • The Soviets
  • The Germans
  • British (available via DLC only)

DLC[ | ]

There are three different DLC packs that you can buy for the base game: Southern Fronts Mission Pack, Case Blue Mission Pack and Victory at Stalingrad Mission Pack.

Southern Fronts Mission Pack[ | ]

The Southern Fronts Mission Pack has 8 missions and two challenges. This mission pack takes place during the During the Spring Rasputitsa in early 1943. You play as the Red Army and the Germans.

Missions[ | ]

The missions are General Mud, Breaking The Lines, Retreat to the Donets, Kharkov Divide, Heavy Rain, No Retreat, No Surrender, Storming the Donets and Panzer Crossing.

The mission General Mud takes place southwest of Kharkov, Ukraine, USSR on March 7, 1943. The Germans had been driven back to the Dnieper River, and were forced to regroup and reorganize. However, with the Red Army vastly overextended, the Wehrmacht seized the opportunity to launch a counterattack and regain the upper hand. You play as the Germans, your goal is to push north towards break past the Soviet lines and to take Kharkov.

The mission Breaking the Lines takes place in Donbas Region, Ukraine, USSR on February 19, 1943. The Red Army is pushing westwards with Operation Gallop. The German defenders, crippled after their losses at Stalingrad, are retreating to the Dnieper river. You play as the Soviets, and the goal of the mission is to quickly wipe the last pockets of German resistance.

The mission Retreat to the Donets takes place in Donets River, Ukraine, USSR on March 16, 1943. After Operations Star and Gallop succeeded in pushing the Germans back to the Dnieper River, the Soviets found their advantage quickly collapsing as they again lost the cities of Kharkov and Belgorod. You play as the Soviets, your goal is to hold the River.

The mission Kharkov Divide takes place in North Kharkov, Ukraine, USSR in March 1943. In their advance towards Kharkov, German forces are ordered towards the north in an attempt to eliminate the remaining pockets of Soviet resistance. You play as a German heavy tank division, your goal is to break to Soviets encirclement.

The mission Heavy Rain takes place in west of Kharkov, Ukraine, USSR in March 1943. After being halted in a bloody battle against the Red Army's defenders, German forces have regrouped and prepare to use the cover of night to break through the enemies defenses. You play as the Germans and your goal is to break through the enemies defenses and take Kharkov.

The mission No Retreat, No Surrender takes place in southwest of Kharkov, Ukraine, USSR on March 7, 1943. The Soviets have suddenly found themselves on the defensive, with a reorganized German Army pushing back with renewed vigor and beginning to reclaim territory in the region around Kharkov. You play as the Soviets and your goal is to hold the line and halt the enemies advance.

The mission Storming the Donets takes place in Donets River, Ukraine, USSR on March 16, 1943. After retaking the city of Kharkov, the German Army pushed eastwards and reclaimed the surrounding area. The Red Army fell back, eventually retreating to a position behind the Donets River. You play as the Germans and your goal is to attack the Soviets on the bank of the Donets and to secure territory on the Donets before Soviet reinforcements arrive.

The mission Panzer Crossing takes place in the western outskirts of Kharkov, Ukraine, USSR in March 1943. The advancing German forces make their way into the outskirts of western Kharkov. You play as the Soviets, your goal is to destroy the Germans tank divisions.

Challenges[ | ]

The challenge Spring Rasputitsa takes place in Donbas Region, Ukraine, USSR, on February 25, 1943. The spring rasputitsa season has caught the German army off guard. They are poorly equipped to deal with the deep mud and are having trouble mobilizing. Lead an ambush on the German Panzer Division. You play as the Soviets, and your goal is to destroy the German tank division before the German reinforcements arrive.

The challenge Occupation takes place in Dnieper River, Russia, USSR on February 22, 1943. Beginning their counter-offensive against the Red Army, the Wehrmacht makes their way along the Dnieper River. A small squad of veterans is ordered to seize control of a stronghold which has given the Soviets a tight grip on the surrounding area. You play as the Germans and your goal is to take the stronghold.

Expansion Packs[ | ]

There are three expansion packs; The British Forces, The Western Front Armies and Ardennes Assault.

The British Forces[ | ]

The British Forces expansion pack adds a new unique tech tree, new units, new abilities and new maps.

There are three different DLC packs for this expansion: British Commander Tactical Support Regiment, British Commander Special Weapons Regiment and British Commander Vanguard Operations.

British Commander Tactical Support Regiment[ | ]

The British Commander Tactical Support Regiment adds five new features. You can now Designate a Command Vehicle, the Command Vehicle improve nearby units and increases the recharge rates of commander abilities. The Field Recovery Operation is another new feature, it allows you to Dispatch 2 Royal Engineer Recovery squads witch can salvage vehicle wrecks for resources. The third new feature is Air Resupply Operation, Air support will automatically drop medical and weapon supply crates on the targeted friendly territories. The fourth new feature is Artillery Cover, Artillery will automatically attack enemy units in that are in the area. Vehicles will be hit with disabling howitzer fire, while infantry will be suppressed with light artillery fire. Damaged vehicles will be covered by a volley of smoke shells. The fifth new feature is Forward Observation Post, you can now Designate an occupied building as a Forward Observation Post. The Forward Observation Post can direct air and artillery support with unique abilities.

British Commander Tactical Support Regiment[ | ]

The British Commander Tactical Support Regiment adds five new features. These five new features are the Tank Hunters Infantry Section, Resupply Half-Track, Hold The Line!, Concentrated Fire Operation and Vanguard Operation Crocodile. Tank Hunters Infantry Sections is one of the new features and can now be deployed in the targeted area. They are equipped with Boys AT Rifles and can detect nearby vehicles. They also have anti-vehicle HEAT grenades. Resupply Half-Track is one of the new features, you can now dispatch a Resupply M3 Half-track. It can reinforce units and deploy weapons on the front line. Hold The Line! is one of the new features in the game, it has infantry units that are in friendly territories gain increased defense. Concentrated Fire Operation is one of the new features and it allows Heavy supporting artillery to open fire at the target location. Vanguard Operation Crocodile is one of the new features and it allows nearby batteries to fire a illumination shot to the target area while a Churchill Crocodile is deployed to the field.

British Commander Vanguard Operations[ | ]

The British Commander Vanguard Operations adds five new features. These five new features are the Raid Operation, Forward Logistics Glider, Vehicle Crew Repairs, Strafing Support and Vanguard Operation Crocodile. Raid Operation allows all of your infantry and vehicles to capture points quickly. Forward Logistics Glider allows you to deploy a Forward Logistics Glider Headquarters with an Airlanding Officer to the targeted sector. The headquarters provides additional Commandos, reinforcements and increases the amount of resources that you collect. Vehicle Crew Repairs is one of the new features, when a Vehicle stops it will automatically begin to repair itself. Strafing Support is one of the new features, when used it allow you to have Two Hawker Typhoons target the designated area with rockets and machine guns. Vanguard Operation Crocodile is one of the new features and it allows nearby batteries to fire a illumination shot to the target area while a Churchill Crocodile is deployed to the field.
