{{Stub}} {{HardwareInfobox |image = Famicomdisksystem-logo.png |image2 = Famicom-disk-system.jpg |manufacturer = Nintendo |type = Peripheral |generation = Third |platforms = Family Computer |jp_rel = {{Release|1986|February|21|JP}} |media = Famicom Disk |successor = Satellaview |competitors = Master System }} The '''Family Computer Disk System''' was an add on for the [[Family Computer]] in 1986 that used a non-standard 3" floppy disk. It allowed games to be read from floppy disks instead of the traditional cartridges. This was advantageous because disks were a relatively cheap and re-writable media at the time, but disadvantages included lower quality sound and graphics. A special feature of this peripheral is that you can save your game progress directly to the disk rather that use a password to re-enter levels already played; is very useful for game with many variables, such as RPG games. {{Nintendo Hardware}} {{Third-Generation Consoles}}
