===Water-type attacks=== Water attacks rarely have additional effects beyond damaging the opponent. Attacks taught to Pokémon with HMs are frequently water attacks, to travel on the water, navigate whirlpools, dive underwater, etc. =====Bubble===== The user blows a stream of bubbles at the foe, suffocating, soaking, or battering the target. Bubble is extremely weak, even at the low levels at which it is learned. It can, in addition to dealing a small amount of damage, lower the victim’s speed. Hits both opponents in double battles =====BubbleBeam===== The user blows a solid beam of bubbles at the foe, soaking and battering the target. Essentially a stronger form of Bubble, this middling-powerful water attack can (but will not always) reduce the victim’s speed in addition do dealing damage. =====Clamp===== The attacker clamps the foe in its shell. The enemy is disabled for two to five turns, taking slight damage. Clamp is exclusive to clam-like Pokémon, including Shellder/Cloyster and Clamperl. This attack, like Wrap, has different effects in different games: in first-generation games, the target cannot attack but the attacker can only use Clamp, but in second- and later-generation games, both the victim and attacker can act normally while Clamp is in effect, but the victim cannot retreat or be switched out for another Pokémon. =====Crabhammer===== Exclusive to crustacean-like Pokémon (including Krabby/Kingler and Corphish/Crawdaunt), this attack is a powerful blow with a crab-claw. It is fairly powerful and has a greater chance of dealing double damage with a critical hit, but is somewhat inaccurate. =====Dive===== The user hides beneath the water, then bursts out, striking the foe by surprise. A middling-powerful attack, like Dig and Fly, that sends the user out of the reach of enemies’ attacks for one turn, then strikes on the second turn. (The user can still be struck by Surf, however, on the first turn.) In third-generation Pokémon games, it can be taught to Pokémon with HM #8, and used to dive to the bottom of the sea in special areas in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, and Emerald. =====Hydro Cannon===== One of the most powerful water moves, only learned by Blastoise. Inflicts heavy damage but the user needs to rest after the attack is used, like Hyper Beam. By completing the in-game Mount Battle in Pokémon XD, however, you can obtain a Totodile with this move as well. =====Hydro Pump===== Initially the most powerful water attack (overtaken only by Water Spout and Hydro Cannon, in the third-generation games), this attack’s power is offset by its less-than-perfect accuracy. =====Muddy Water===== The user douses the foe with water fouled with silt. A middling-powerful water attack, this is exclusive to Marshtomp and Swampert and may lower an opponent’s accuracy if it hits. Strikes both opponent’s in a double battle. =====Octazooka===== The user sprays a blast of inky water at the foe. Exclusive to Octillery, this middling powerful attack may lower the target's accuracy if it hits. =====Rain Dance===== One of the weather attacks introduced in Pokémon Gold and Silver, this attack does not affect the opponent or the user, but instead begins a rainstorm that lasts for five turns. During this rain, water attacks are more powerful, fire attacks (and attacks that rely on the sun, like Solar Beam, Synthesis, Morning Sun, and Moonlight) are less powerful, and Thunder always strikes with perfect accuracy. =====Splash===== The user splashes around uselessly. Nearly exclusive to Magikarp (though a handful of other Pokémon can learn it), this attack does absolutely nothing (despite rumors that it will knock out an enemy with a single hit some astronomically small percentage of the time). =====Surf===== The attacker conjures up a massive wave, then rides it into the foe. The most powerful water attack without less-than-perfect accuracy or other drawbacks. In the video games, it can be taught to Pokémon with HM #3, and used to travel over water. A Pikachu that knows Surf has at different times been given away (in the form of transferring the Pokémon onto a player’s copy of a Pokémon game) as a special promotional Pokémon in (real-life) Pokémon events, or included as a special unlockable extra in certain games. Hits both opponents in double battles. =====Water Gun===== The user sprays a blast of water at the foe. The typical beginner water attack. Nearly every water Pokémon with an oriface from which to spray or spit water can perform this attack in the anime, and it has been used in accuracy contests and fire-fighting efforts as well as an attack. =====Water Pulse===== The user blasts sonic waves through the water at the foe. A middling-powerful water attack which can (but will not always) inflict the Confused status ailment on the victim. =====Water Sport===== The user soaks itself in water. This isn’t an attack per se; instead, it makes the user more resistant to fire attacks. =====Water Spout===== The user blasts water at the foe from a blowhole. Exclusive to whale-like Pokémon (including Wailmer/Wailord and Kyogre), this is the most powerful water attack. Like Eruption, however, this attack’s power decreases in effectiveness as the user takes damage. =====Waterfall===== The user rides a waterfall high up, then rides it down onto the foe. A middling-powerful water attack. Initially, this was exclusive to Goldeen/Seaking, but in second- and third-generation Pokémon games, it can be taught to Pokémon with HM #7, and used to climb waterfalls. =====Whirlpool===== The attacker traps the foe in a whirlpool. Like Wrap and Clamp, the enemy is disabled for two to five turns, taking slight damage. This attack, like Wrap, has different effects in different games: in first-generation games, the target cannot attack but the attacker can only use Whirlpool, but in second- and later-generation games, both the victim and attacker can act normally while Whirlpool is in effect, but the victim cannot retreat or be switched out for another Pokémon. In second-generation Pokémon games, it can be taught to Pokémon with HM #6, and used to neutralize obstructing whirlpools. Affects both opponent’s in double battles. =====Withdraw===== The user withdraws into its shell. This move, which isn’t technically an attack, increases the user’s defense against physical attacks by 50%.
