"Moai Better Blues" is the second episode of Sam & Max Season Two created by Telltale Games and published by GameTap.

Plot

Sam and Max, after returning from the North Pole, find that a giant triangular vortex is chasing after Sybil and sucking debris off the street into it. The duo learn from Bosco that the vortex is a Bermuda Triangle and how to stop it, but not before it sucks up the head of the statue of Abraham Lincoln; Sybil follows it into the vortex, and Sam and Max decide they should follow as well in order to save the two.

On the other side, they find themselves on Easter Island, with Sybil and Abe safe and enjoying a picnic; however, the ancient Moai (stone statues) of the island recognize that the appearance of Sam and Max is the sign from a prophecy that will end their existence, and implore the two to try to stop it. On the island, they find Amelia Earhart, D. B. Cooper, Charles Lindbergh, Glenn Miller, and Jimmy Hoffa, all turned into babies by the effects of the Fountain of Youth. With their help or hindrance, the duo make it into a secret cave below the island, where the ghost of their dead goldfish, Mr. Spatula, is being worshiped as a high priest by a trio of sea simians. Mr. Spatula appears ready to take revenge on Sam and Max by starting a lava machine with the assistance of the sea simians, which will wipe out everything on the island. The two are able to make the simians recognize Max as their true high priest, but not before Mr. Spatula can start the lava machine. The situation is resolved when some quick thinking from Sam redirecting the lava flow, and therefore saving the island. After the credits the Moai head are seen being captured by a mysterious force from the sky.

Trivia

• The Wilhelm Scream can be heard when baby Jimmy Hoffa is shrunk.
• The Lost numbers can be seen on a hatch in the secret underground cave. When you click it, another reference is made to Lost about the polar bears from the pilot.
• On one of the radio frequencies someone shouts "'Snake? Snaaaake!'", as a reference to when Solid Snake dies in the Metal Gear series of computer games.
• The crates feature a different colored picture of Duke Nukem with the letters D.N.E. (in reference to Duke Nukem Forever.)
• During one of the conversations, Sam tells Max that "This is the first time we have ever stopped a volcano god." to which Max replies. "Unless you count that time in the Philippines." This is a reference to the first Sam & Max comic book adventure, Monkeys Violating the Heavenly Temple.
• Bosco says he has everything prepared for his bunker, Sam asks "Do you have any Stimpacks and Rad-x" A reference to the fallout series.
• In the lost and found box, they say they found "A fully playable beta of Sam & Max: Freelance Police."
• When the Bermuda Triangle appears towards the end of the episode, Max exclaims that it is the second biggest Bermuda Triangle he has ever seen, a reference to Guybrush Threepwood's comments on the giant monkey head in The Secret of Monkey Island.
• The name of the episode is a reference to the movie Mo' Better Blues.
