{{SoftwareInfobox | image = MAMELogoTM.jpg | developer = Nicola Salmoria | type = Emulator | version = 0.241 | ww_rel = {{Release|1997|February|5|WW|Microsoft Windows}} | platforms = Microsoft Windows,macOS,GNU/Linux | emulated_platforms = Arcade | arch = x86,x64 }} '''''Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator''''' (usually shortened to ''MAME'') is an [[emulator]] designed to recreate the hardware of [[arcade game]] systems in software, with the intent of preserving gaming history and preventing vintage games from being lost or forgotten. The remit has also been expanded to cover personal computer hardware and non-video game software as well as standard handheld and home consoles. The first public MAME release (0.1) was on February 5, 1997, by Nicola Salmoria. The emulator was initially released under a custom license that explicitly forbade commercial use, even though it is free software. This clause was removed in 2015. MAME 0.217, released on December 25, 2019, is the last version to support 32-bit Microsoft Windows. All other binaries provided since then require 64-bit versions of the OS. ==External Links== * [https://www.mamedev.org Official website] {{Intel Hardware Emulators}} {{Nintendo Hardware Emulators}} {{SEGA Hardware Emulators}} {{Sony Hardware Emulators}}
