In video gaming, a Publisher is an entity that handles the advertising and usually, distribution of a product, and typically oversees development of studios and developers within it's corporate structure.

Publishers used to be independant companies that entered into agreements with developers for the advertising and sale of their game, sometimes going through a third party for distribution. In recent times, publishers now usually handle both advertising, and distribution, as well as having development studies directly within their corporate structure.
