Smarties Meltdown is a Third-Person Platformer developed and published by Europress on March 16th for the Playstation 2 only in Europe. A North American release, as well as a release on the GameCube were planned but ultimately cancelled .
Gameplay[ | ]
Smarties: Meltdown is a third-person platformer where you take control of a sentient Smartie in order to take back the Smarties Factory from the games antagonist Dr Soursweet and his Stroops. In order to do this, the player has to explore the different areas of the Smarties Factory, defeating enemy Stroops, rescuing Smarties dotted around the facility and looking for upgrades to the exosuit, including but not limited to:
- Choco Ray - allows you to fire a blast of chocolate that can kill Stroops
- Half-Chocolate Jacket - A temporary power up which makes the player impervious to damage for a short amount of time
The exosuit itself runs on "energy" which needs to be replenished, either naturally as you run pr from orbs dropped from defeated Stroops. You also have a limited amount of health, which can be replenished with Medikits and if you die you lose a life (1 out of a total of 5).
The game is quite open ended, with large areas to explore and enemies dotted around the entire area and usually a set amount of smarties to rescue before you can progress to the next stage.

You take control of Big Blue, a sentient Smartie aboard a Smarties Factory ship that is orbiting ship when it comes under attack from the Evil Dr. Soursweet who intends to take over the Smarties Factory and use it for his own nefarious purposes
Reception[ | ]
When it was released in Europe it received only one review, from the Official PlayStation 2 Magazine which gave it their lowest score of 1/10, and it is possible that this extremely negative reception led to the cancellation of both a North American release and a port to the GameCube.
