World 1[ | ]

1-1[ | ]

An overworld map. There is one secret tunnel.

1-2[ | ]

An underground map. There is a warp to levels 2, 3, or 4 at the end. This is the level where the Minus World is accessed from.

Hidden Warp Zones[ | ]

Underground, you will eventually walk passed a low-dropping ceiling of blocks, of which a koopa and some goomba's walk under. As large Mario, break through the blocks to make your way up to the top, then break through onto the ceiling. Walk along here until you reach the elevators. Jump across them, using the second ascending elevator platform to jump back onto the ceiling. Continue on until you drop down into the warp zone.

Alternatively, in any form, you may just jump onto the ceiling from the ascending elevator platform. The first way simply allows you to pass through 1-2 without harm.

1-3[ | ]

An overworld map on the treetops.

1-4[ | ]

First castle. Bowser has no obstacles.

World 2[ | ]

World 3[ | ]

World 4[ | ]

Secrets[ | ]

The Minus World[ | ]

A glitch level. In the NES version, this is a never-ending underwater world. When you reach the end of this "level", you are taken to the start of the level. There are no powerups and the only way to end the level is to die or run out of time. When you die, you are taken to the start or middle of -1. In the Famicom Disk System version, this is a three-level world with some strange quirks. The game ends after the third world as though you completed the game at world 8. The minus world has been made inaccessible in all ports of the game.

To access this glitch, become either Super Mario or Fire Mario. Go to the end of World 1-2 and stand on top of the pipe. Go all the way to the right, and then one square left. Knock the brick above you out. There should now be the wall with one brick attached and a gap. Walk to the edge of the pipe without falling off. Now for the tricky part: crouch, then while crouching, jump and hold right so the brick attached to the wall pushes you down in the air slightly. When done right, you will go through the wall. Do not move; you will slide through the wall automatically. Once you are through the wall, enter the first pipe (beware the piranha plant!). Do not walk all the way to the right or the area reverts to the normal warp area when "Welcome to Warp Zone!" appears. (The middle pipe takes you to world 5, and the rightmost pipe also takes you to the Minus World.)

SMB in Less Than 10 minutes[ | ]

By Ryan Whitehead a.k.a. RYjet911

I won't go through copyright details as I'm not copyrighting this. Although I would like this to ONLY be on this site. Please at least tell me if you want this on your site.

It is a very short guide as not much is needed to say. Except for don't go up bonus levels and such as this wastes time. I have completed the game in 5 minutes 22 seconds with this method.

World 1-1 - Beat as you normally would, but don't collect any power-ups or whatever (unless you can do them fluently without wasting time)

World 1-2 - At the final part of the level with the orange platforms moving up and down, stand on the right hand side ones. When you can, jump to the blue brick platform and run all the way to the right. You will find three pipes. Go into the left most pipe and you will end up at world 4-1.

World 4-1 - Beat as normal. To save time, it is possible to jump over the piranha plants. Your jumps have to be timed perfectly though otherwise Mario will get a taste of ripped pants (and various body parts).

World 4-2 - One part nearer the beginning of the level, there are quite a few ? blocks with an orange platform on the right hand side of them. Go over this platform and you'll see three brick blocks above you. The very left hand one has a beanstalk which will take you to the warp zone for world 8-1, but don't try to hit it yet. go directly underneath the right most block and jump. An invisible coin block will appear. Go underneath the middle one and a higher up coin block will appear. Now use these blocks that have appeared as some stairs. WHATEVER YOU DO DON'T MAKE THE BLOCK UNDERNEATH THE LEFT MOST BRICK APPEAR UNLESS YOU ARE SMALL MARIO!!! Move Mario so he is standing on the centre dead ? block but is underneath the left most brick. jump and the beanstalk will grow. destroy the centre brick and climb up the beanstalk. Go to the very right hand side of the level and again go down the very left pipe. You will now be in world 8-1

World 8-1 to 8-4 - beat as normal.

You have now completed SMB1 using only a quarter of the levels and only a fraction of the time.
