Unreal Engine 2 is the second version of the Unreal Engine, that was first created for the cancelled game Unreal Warfare, later becoming Gears of War. The engine was first used with the release of America's Army, a multi-player army simulator.

The engine used both C++ and UnrealScript.

Unreal Engine 2 was last updated in 2005, a year after the release of Unreal Engine 3.
